Pub Brew. Black Chai is a sumptuous black ale that immediately entices the senses with aromas of dark specialty malts, cardamon, nutmeg, and ginger. The brew has a delicious creamy mouthfeel. Chocolate and roasted malt characteristics resonate throughout this black ale. The finish is playfully spicy and bitter.

Deep brown thin pour with half inch brown head. Dodger carbonation, thicker creamy mouthfeel, finishes dry. Aroma of black tea, cream, allspice, a bit light. Flavor of malty chocolate, some tea that’s bitter, nutmeg and allspice blend with the tea to make a bitter chai flavor, a bit chalky. Decent and tastes like chai.

Near black body with a thick beige head. Roasted malt, chocolate, spruce, how was your spice, tea leaves, earth. Smoke and char with chai tea. Mild to moderate sweetness. Bitter, ashy smoke in the finish. Interesting and creative, as expected with Short’s. Fun to try once.

Bottle. Spices win over roast... but some roast background. Deep black color, and outstanding body!

Pours a dark brown with a foamy, long-lasting tan head. Aroma is chocolate and roast, with a combination of chai tea that doesn’t blend so well. Flavor is stronger on the chai tea and roast, along with some bitterness. Seems more like a chai and porter than a black ipa. Different, but tastes pretty good.

Feel like this is a little underrated. The chai really comes through on this one. Heavy mouthfeel with robust flavors. Spicey, roasty, nutty and pretty enjoyable.

Toasted malts, nutmeg, cinnamon, brown sugar toffee and nuts. Slightly herbal finish. Medium bodied, creamy and smooth.

bottle. near black with one finger head. less of a black ipa than a black ale. interesting spicing. the chai is present, but not in your face. like just about everything shorts makes, this is interesting. not bad, but wouldn’t seek out again soon.

Roast and spice aroma, pours an opaque black with a dusting of tan head. Lots of roasted notes, fading to a spiced finish. Moderate body, with a slightly slick mouthfeel. It’s an interesting taste, but I’m not sure I’d go for it again.

Don’t understand the low rating. This beer starts with a very robust aroma. Spice and dark malt dominant the nose. Deep dark pour with a tan head gives this black ipa a wonderful appearance. Taste is just as robust as the aroma. Malty and spicy with a hint of chai. Thick mouthfeel. Overall this beer is just wonderful. Will definitely be getting it again.
