Black Cherry Porter is made using local Northern Michigan sweet black cherries, eight different malts, and three varieties of hops. The combination of ingredients provides the deep radiant flavor profile and creates a dark opaque color. The beer leaves a slight purple lace from the fruit puree and finishes with flavors of roasted chocolate and pleasurable black cherry.

Black Cherry Porter is one of the oldest beers in our portfolio. It was brewed for the first time on July 29, 2004 as the 35th batch of beer ever brewed at Short’s.

Bottle:   Pours black, moderate to large frothy beige head, hints of cherry colors in the lacing thats left behind, and might I add it has very nice lacing.   Heavy roast and dark chocolate up front, a little coffee like as well.   Cherry comes out a bit on the backside, but its a little subdued.   I expected it to be a bit more.   However, it has a fruity tartness that seems to me like unripened cherries.   Don’t know that I would call this a Fruit Beer as its a pretty hefty Porter as is.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Its smooth, but also a little bubbley.   Backside has this bakers chocolate that is pretty strong, along with some deep rich chocolate covered cherries.   Not as sweet as I expected, but still enjoyable.

bottled@Unterländer Biertage (Erzbierschof) - black beer under a long lasting dark beige foam; quite roasted aroma with fair notes of cherry; medium to ful-bodied; a light fruity sourness; some earthy bitterness and long roasted nutty and coffee notes with some cherry reminiscence

Bottle. Sweet milk chocolate, coffee, and cherry aroma. Black with a small brown head. Coffee, cherry, charcoal, light acidic, and a little chocolate flavor. Medium body, lively carbonation. This is so well done that I liked it, despite the fact that I hate cherry flavor.

Bottle. Pours a black coloured beer with a small tanned head. Aroma is full of sour cherries, as well as some porter notes like coffee and dark chocolate. Very interesting smell, taste is even more interesting. The sour cherries return in the flavour, as wel as the chocolate notes. Making this basicly a chocolate cherry beer, very enjoyable and easy drinkable. Quite sweet overall taste and thick, cloying mouthfeeel. This is a great example of an awesome fruit beer in my opinion.

Sample at Haand Festival 2012. Black colored, brown head. Aroma of licorice, cherries (surprise surprise) and roasted malt. Taste is more complex, as above plus chocolate, wood and a bit of smoke. Enjoyable beer, with a roasted bitter finish.

Bottle shared by afdempse. Thanks Adam! This beer appears a very deep shade of brown, bordering on blackness. The beige head is approximately a finger thick and leaves a healthy amount of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists primarily of roasted malt with dark fruit. The flavor brings more of the same, with cherries really emerging in the finish. A tasty offering from Short’s. The feel is medium bodied, with alcohol content disguised pretty well. A nice sipper. I’d drink this again. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-11-2011

Bottle. An opaque black beer. with a large, frothy, mostly lasting, light brown head. The aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, chocolate, coffee, caramel), with notes of dark fruits, black cherry and cherry syrup. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. long finish with moderate bitterness, lightly alcoholic. The cherries get more evident as the beer warms, and add some nice aromas/flavors, including a touch of acidity. All in all a very good porter.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours a near balck body with medium choco-brown head. Dryish roasted coffe/chocolate aroma with a hint cherries. Mils sour-accented cherry flavor, overpowerd by lightly sweet and roasted chocolatey malts. Notes of ash, faint wood. Medium body, slick in the mouth. A fine bitterness in the finish. Not very fruity, yet a more than decent Porter.
