Black Cherry Porter is made using local Northern Michigan sweet black cherries, eight different malts, and three varieties of hops. The combination of ingredients provides the deep radiant flavor profile and creates a dark opaque color. The beer leaves a slight purple lace from the fruit puree and finishes with flavors of roasted chocolate and pleasurable black cherry.

Black Cherry Porter is one of the oldest beers in our portfolio. It was brewed for the first time on July 29, 2004 as the 35th batch of beer ever brewed at Short’s.

Bottle, shared with BBGTC. Black body with a slight cherry red hue and a small light beige head. Aroma is salty licorice, mild dark berries, dark chocolate and traces of cherry. Taste is roasty caramel malt tones, toffee, hints of black berries and cherries. Very mild. Smooth body, medium carbonation. Good, but I wish for more cherries to come through.

Bottle shared by Arve_Christian (thanks!). Pretty black with a small beige head. Aroma is a strange mix of cherries and other dark fruits with chocolate and hints of coffee and some roasty notes. Medium body. Fruity and malty with a lightly sour and bitter finish. Decent, but not quite my kind of beer I guess. (2012-11-09)

Initial taste isn't bad, but after a few sips it's kinda horrible. Not much cherry taste. A little sticky. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a deep umber color with a finger or two of mocha foam. Aromas are black cherry, roasted chocolate and some earthy compost notes... On the palate its a bit muddy. Slight black cherry cola notes get tangled in dark dirt burnt malt and a bit of off bitterness that I know is from the cherries but its a bit rich in the earthy notes and a little to muddled in the finish.

Pours pitch black with a pretty sizable mocha head that leaves behind some soapy lace. Nose of chocolate and cherries with plenty of roasted notes. Taste is pretty sweet with some roasted bitterness and a fair amount of tartness from the cherries. Pretty full bodied, creamy, somewhat active carb, with a tangy rich finish. Really good beer.

Bottle:   Pours black, moderate to large frothy beige head, hints of cherry colors in the lacing thats left behind, and might I add it has very nice lacing.   Heavy roast and dark chocolate up front, a little coffee like as well.   Cherry comes out a bit on the backside, but its a little subdued.   I expected it to be a bit more.   However, it has a fruity tartness that seems to me like unripened cherries.   Don’t know that I would call this a Fruit Beer as its a pretty hefty Porter as is.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Its smooth, but also a little bubbley.   Backside has this bakers chocolate that is pretty strong, along with some deep rich chocolate covered cherries.   Not as sweet as I expected, but still enjoyable.

bottled@Unterländer Biertage (Erzbierschof) - black beer under a long lasting dark beige foam; quite roasted aroma with fair notes of cherry; medium to ful-bodied; a light fruity sourness; some earthy bitterness and long roasted nutty and coffee notes with some cherry reminiscence
