COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Cherry Porter is made using local Northern Michigan sweet black cherries, eight different malts, and three varieties of hops. The combination of ingredients provides the deep radiant flavor profile and creates a dark opaque color. The beer leaves a slight purple lace from the fruit puree and finishes with flavors of roasted chocolate and pleasurable black cherry.

Black Cherry Porter is one of the oldest beers in our portfolio. It was brewed for the first time on July 29, 2004 as the 35th batch of beer ever brewed at Short’s.

12oz bottle thanks to northernbrews, pours black with a red tint to it with a light brown head, aroma is of nice chocolate with a little bit of sour cherry mixed in, the flavor has a nice amount of chocolate on the front end with a tartness of cherries in the finish, pretty rounded all the way through, pretty good stuff.

Bottle poured into pint glass. Pours a dark dark red, opaque, with a heavy, tan, 1/2 inch thick head. I can smell the tartness of the cherries in competition with the hefty aroma of malt. A bit of alcohol in there. Smells like a sipping beer. The taste is complex from start to finish. Wow. Starts off with coffee, malt, and a mystery flavor in the middle. Caramel? Finishes tart with the black cherries. Feels silky smooth. Buttery. Coats the inside of the mouth. I give Short’s high praise (again) for their experimental attempt. I think "Black Cherry Porter" accurately sums up the overall modus operandi of this beer. You get all those flavors.

Tiszta, éjfekete színe, kakaóbarna habja egészen különleges, kerekded malátás, sült tésztás illatokat rejt magában, az igazi csavar azonban a savanyú, balzsamecethez hasonló színezetben áll, mely kis idő elteltével már puha, fekete gyümölcsös aromává alakul. A savanykás jellemvonás ízében is elsődleges szerepet játszik, legalábbis az összetett ízkompozíció ezzel veszi kezdetét. Ezt követően mézédes, érett cseresznye és meggybefőtt aromái csatlakoznak a vibráló összképhez, miközben a porteres benyomásról pörkölt maláta, illetve pikáns, füstös, bükkfás ízjegyek gondoskodnak. A végízében ismételten a savanyú zamatoké a főszerep, némi füsttel megbolondított cseresznye érett jellegével.

Bottle: Black, tan head. Unfortunately the bottles I had of this were infected, quite badly. I was expecting a mild sweet & tartness, but it was nothing but medicinal chalk & sour vinegar with a huge, ashy aftertaste. Smelled like old, sour steak sauce. Pretty gag-worthy & not what it’s supposed to be. I had the Imperial version on tap & it was much better. Will re-rate if I ever have this version again, non-infected.

On tap at the Anniversary party. Very dark on the pour with a dark red tint. Smells mostly of tart dark fruits. Flavors match the nose with a tart dark cherry fruit. I liked it. Would have liked to got more.

bottle. Deep brown with small head. Rich malty porter with moderate cherry flavor. Pretty much what you’d expect from the name.

More dark malts than cherry. Actually, what happened to the cherry? Doesn’t hold up to what it’s supposed to be.
