COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Cherry Porter is made using local Northern Michigan sweet black cherries, eight different malts, and three varieties of hops. The combination of ingredients provides the deep radiant flavor profile and creates a dark opaque color. The beer leaves a slight purple lace from the fruit puree and finishes with flavors of roasted chocolate and pleasurable black cherry.

Black Cherry Porter is one of the oldest beers in our portfolio. It was brewed for the first time on July 29, 2004 as the 35th batch of beer ever brewed at Short’s.

Dark pour with a foamy head. Aroma of roast, chocolate, cherries and something just a bit off. Flavor is the same, loads of cherries and chocolate, but something here is just not quite right. I wanted to like it a lot more.

Draft to taster. Looks good; a translucent darker cherry cola with. Foamy dark beige head. Smells malty with notes of cherry alongside mild chocolate and toast. Tastes like it smells with a fairly bitter medium-bodied mouthfeel. Some hops on the tongue as well. Solid, but a little cherry-forward for my preferences.

Pours a jet black with a thick, long-lasting tan head. Aroma is chocolate, roast, and subtle cherry. Flavor is roast, bitter chocolate, and just enough cherry to give it some character. Smooth body. Very enjoyable.

On tap at Crunchy's. Wonderful. Cherry aroma with just enough fruit flavor that cuts through. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle. Mild aroma of chocolate and tart. The the flavor is malty with notes of tart black cherries with a small amount of chocolate. Some tannin notes. Interesting and the black cherry goes well with the rich malts.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/12/2015. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense dark brown head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, black cherry, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, floral, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of roast/bready malt, cherries, and moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, black cherry, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, floral and roasted earthiness. Moderate amount of herbal/roasted bitterness and light fruit tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, cherry, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt, cherries, and moderate earthy hop flavors; with a nice roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness after the finish from roasted bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent fruited porter. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt, cherries, and moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Pours black with a mocha head. Smells of roasted malts and alcohol; some fruit becomes noticeable only after it has warmed considerably. A light to moderate sweetness underneath a medium bitterness. Dominant flavors of roasted malts, some chocolate, slight cherry/berry flavors underneath that become more pronounced in the finish. Overall, a roasty tasting porter. Medium+ to full bodied; thick and a bit oily; finish is bitter and dry.

Nice roasted notes with slight coffee flavor. Has some slight tartness and sweetness from the cherries and some light vanilla / burnt sugar. Overall an enjoyable beer, but not something that is mind-blowing.

Bottle bought in Copenhagen a couple of years ago. Black with a medium tan head. Aroma and taste of chocolate, light cherries, some wood and roasted malt. The finish was dry and fairly bitter, also with sour notes. Relaxed and kind of easy to drink.

Aroma is roasted malt, black cherries, coffee. Appearance is black, a red tinge at the top. Taste is robust, roasted malt and black cherry balanced. Delicious. Mouthful is decently thick, slightly light, but the flavor hangs. Overall, a very nice offering.

Bottle poured into pint glass. Pours a dark dark red, opaque, with a heavy, tan, 1/2 inch thick head. I can smell the tartness of the cherries in competition with the hefty aroma of malt. A bit of alcohol in there. Smells like a sipping beer. The taste is complex from start to finish. Wow. Starts off with coffee, malt, and a mystery flavor in the middle. Caramel? Finishes tart with the black cherries. Feels silky smooth. Buttery. Coats the inside of the mouth. I give Short’s high praise (again) for their experimental attempt. I think "Black Cherry Porter" accurately sums up the overall modus operandi of this beer. You get all those flavors.
