COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bludgeon Yer Eye is an India Black Ale. Intense fruity and floral aromas, along with a subtle malty fragrance, emits from the beer. The deep black color complements the rich, dark roasted malt flavors. The unexpected twist comes when the high hop bitterness takes over and leaves a bitter finish.

Bottle to half-pint glass (shared with the Mrs.). Looks good; cola with thin beige head. Smells and tastes of dark malt, hops, and roast. Solid on the palate. Enjoyable.

Bottle pours black with low head. Aroma is pine resin and roast, taste is similar with a nice dry bitter finish

Bottled 11/08/13 (?) and poured into a shaker pint. Part of a $10 Mix-a-Six at Fairway Sav-Mor in Eastpointe, Michigan. Appearance: Crystal clear ruby black with a creamy sand colored head on top. Incredible sip-for-sip lacing. Perfect in my book. Smell: Holy hops, they aren’t fooling around with this beer. Massive pine and earthy notes, with citrus undertones. A slight roastiness, but that super hoppy smell doesn’t match its dark color. Taste/feel: More of those hops. Tastes nothing like a black ale to me until the beer reaches the middle of the mouth and on the finish, when the roasty bitterness couples with the hops. A pretty damn bitter beer, so prepare yourself. Very dry, resinous, pleasant lingering hoppiness on the finish. Medium body with a medium carbonation, making this a pretty easy drinking beer, even with the lack of balance. Tasty stuff. Additionally, is this beer seriously 5%? It feels like it could easily be about 7%. I find it incredible that this beer’s ABV is what it is.

Nice hoppy aroma, with a hint of roast. Pours a dark ruby red, with a thin tan head. Solid flavor, starting with roast, fading into some grassy hop notes. Long lingering bitter finish, a quite tasty Black IPA.

Bottle. Deep black appearance. Medium khaki head. Citrus pine and malt. Maybe a little too light bodied. Ok balance.

Pours dark brown almost black. No head. Roasted spicy and floral hop aroma. Floral hops, roasted malt, and hints of citrus rind. Not much to it. Low carbonation and light body kind of ruined this for me. Maybe a bad batch?

On tap at the brewpub. Floral hop with roasted malt undertones in the taste and aroma. Smooth, not overly bitter finish. Nice

4oz on tap at HopCat East Lansing during the Shorts tap takeover. Dark brown slightly reddish color. Thin ring of off-white / tan head. Decent ropes of lace. Oh man, awesome nose. Chocolate, roast, awesome earthy herbal hop. Light spice. Bigger body. Smooth, lightly soft lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Good moderate bitter taste. Piney, chocolate in flavor. Very tasty, awesome black IPA. Shorts does it right.

On draft at HopCat in East Lansing. Pours more of a reddish brown than a black. Thin, thin head. Light lacing. Smells quite hoppy, with subtle roasted undertones. The flavor is very hoppy, so much so that it overwhelms any other potential contributor. The finish is dry, but really thin, leaving a little desire to have the flavor linger.

Pour is dark black with a mostly tight dark tan head. Nose has a light smoke to it, some malt depth with chocolate, and a faint citrusy hop behind. Taste is much smokier, complex malt of caramel and chocolate, hops are light and like the nose citrusy. Not much bitterness, lingering smoke, decent carbonation, lighter body and very smooth.
