Many thanks to Steve for the ’09 bomber! Poured clear cola brown with a tightly-packed beige head. The aroma opened with sweet bourbon and sour oak with toasted molasses and sweet vanilla not far behind.. coconut and crispy burnt marshmallow accents as it warmed up.. fleeting, soft notes of Jack & Coke right on the back of the nose. The flavor found molasses, coconut, and some black patent maltage at the core.. the bourbon and oak were laced gracefully throughout, complementing the base beer and never getting out of hand.. finished with somewhat resiny bourbon, maple, and molasses. Lighter-bodied than expected, likely a by-product of the bourbon treatment.. low carbonation.. not a feel I’d like for most beers, but it very much worked here. I could drink this all night.

Served on draft at Hopcat in Grand Rapids. Pours a dark brown color with a thin white head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of bourbon with a big buttery note and some faint cherry notes. The taste is bourbon, cherries, a buttery note, faint nuttiness and faint hops in the finish. Medium-full bodied. Decent beer.

Bottle. High creamy and lasting light brown head. Very very dark red brown body, close to black. Sweet vanilla wood earth bourbon aroma without the expected coffree.
Bottle. High creamy and long lasting, good looking, light brown, creamy head. Very dark, almost black, red brown, body. Sweet caramel vanilla butter aroma. Sweet toffree coffee caramel flavor with just a hint of hops bitterness, low carbonation and a long sweet aftertaste. Wonderfully balanced flavor with just the right amount of alcohol level. Impressive taste for a beer with this alcohol level.

Thanks again to tpd975. This is my first Shorts Brewing beer. Pours dark brown with amber and copper edges to go along with a light brown head. The aroma is wood, bourbon, vanilla and a sliver of caramel. The taste begins with a quick pulse of sweet malts, a hint of roasted malts and caramel. Then wood and bourbon rise up followed by a note of vanilla. Tasty stuff but for me it is balanced a little too much on the side of the barrel flavors. Just by a bit though.
