3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Pailhead (3858) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - OCT 27, 2012
On tap: The aroma consists of butterscotch, vanilla, fruit, and faint nuts. It’s a transparent amber with a small off-white head. The flavor starts with caramel, vanilla, and butterscotch. The finish has citrus hops, pine, and bourbon. It’s light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, I generally don’t like butterscotch, but it works in this beer.

growler pour. amber with small head. quite strong bourbon aroma and flavor. buried underneath is butterscotch with hops. surprisingly light flavor other than the bourbon.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 ICEatALAMO (532) - Troy, Michigan, USA - SEP 7, 2012
Draft at brewery. Pour light, even for a brown ipa. The smell is faint with bourbon that covers the hops. The hops dominate the taste here. A good beer if you like'em hop heavy. Wish there was more bourbon flavor.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 paintedmaple (211) - Fenton, Michigan, USA - SEP 3, 2012
The initial sweetness of this beer is overwhelming and off-putting and is the dominant flavor. I thought there would be some offset to the sweetness, but none was found nor was any bourbon present.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Silphium (2969) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - AUG 25, 2012
Draft at Short’s. Hazy, straw/orange-brown body, thin off-white/cream head. Toasty, burnt nose with burnt caramels and butterscotch. Bitter body, toasty, with oak and bourbon and diacetyl candy corn/butterscotch notes that conspire to dominate the palate after a few sips and reduce enjoyment of this beer.
