Shag (1767), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Aug 18, 2008 A black apperance with a beige head. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, and licorice. The flavor is slightly bitter with some coffee, chocolate, and dark fruits. A nutty presence also exists. Overall a good stout. lassem (106), Copenhagen, Denmark Aug 8, 2008 This one is massive and very complex. It pours a nice black body with a fine brown head. The nose is full of coffee, and roasted and burned malts - very round and ballanced. I taste caramel malts, chocolate, christmas nuts, dry figs with a nice bitterness. The palate is full-bodied and round. TURDFERGUSON (1114), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Aug 5, 2008 Bottle shared by eclectic at BCTC. Thanks Kevin! Pours dark brown with a tan head. Nose is roasty with oats, chocolate, coffee. Flavor was interesting mix, very similar to aroma, but I can only guess that the carob is what mixed things up. Pretty good beer overall and a nice change from the typical imperial stout. shp555 (1375), lilburn, Georgia, USA Jul 28, 2008 Pours brown color with no head. Aroma is caramel, roast, coffee, and alcohol. Flavor is malty, caramel, cream, roast, coffee, and a bitter earthy finish. ChainGangGuy (1506), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jun 26, 2008 Appearance: Pours a dark brown body, though with only a scant, off-white head.
Smell: Roasty, grainy aroma smelling fairly chocolatey and a bit like fresh-brewed coffee.
Taste: Roast and an intensely dark chocolate-esque flavor with a subtle sweetness. Tastes of burnt marshmallows and cookie crumbs. Hint of bitterish tree bark. Fairly roasty throughout, particularly on the otherwise creamy finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Rather enjoyable! It’s good to see carob finally making a much-needed comeback. One of the tasties carob-based beers that have ever been.
