COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
ControversiALE, FKA Hangin’ Frank, is a tribute to Simcoe hops. Simcoe hops are extremely sought after and limited, so Short’s is excited to share this brew with Michigan craft beer lovers every spring. The earthy, citrus and pine-laced aroma is instantly delectable. A large amount of toasted grains and high alpha hops form a perfect union that creates the sensation of toasted sourdough covered with grapefruit hop marmalade. While this beer is hopped like IPA, it drinks like Pale Ale. The light, refreshing qualities of this beer make it perfect for springtime.

(from notes) On draft at Basement Burger Bar on February 19. The pour is a dark gold with hints of copper, maybe orange, and there is a decent white head that fades down leaving gorgeous lace. The aroma is very hoppy with incredible citrus and pine notes. The bitter hoppiness dominates, but then falls off a little toward the back end. The flavor is an immediate blast of hops and bitterness, but not as much as the aroma would lead on. The pine and citrus blow in about half way through and leave a soft, dry bitterness on the back end, which is just awesome. The mouth feel is a little thin, and the aftertaste is just great.

Bottle, 12oz. It’s a clear, dark golden to orange beer topped by a small, off-white head. It’s lightly malty on the nose, with a touch of apricot and orange peel. Pretty boring all the way this one. There’s some bitterness in the flavor, but not much fruityness. Some pale malts. Pretty dry on the palate, with a nice carbonation. Bitter, lightly fruity finish. Overall, boring. 131231

Bottle shared with esp0r at BRU Pub, august 1st 2013. Dark golden body, offwhite head. Aroma is malty with earthly hops, grapefruit. Grassy taste with lots af sweet malt, light citrus notes, high bitterness, a bit too sweet and grainy in my opinion.

bottle thanks to mikem409. probably shoulda drank this sooner, but I just found it in the back of the fridge. nose is kind of catty, almost urine like. some underlying, which were probably stronger before, citrus, orange-like notes. those are pleasant. hazy orange color, minimal white head. thin malt mouthfeel with immediate bitterness and a faint hop flavor. the hops could use something to hang on to. kinda thin and lackluster.
