COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
ControversiALE, FKA Hangin’ Frank, is a tribute to Simcoe hops. Simcoe hops are extremely sought after and limited, so Short’s is excited to share this brew with Michigan craft beer lovers every spring. The earthy, citrus and pine-laced aroma is instantly delectable. A large amount of toasted grains and high alpha hops form a perfect union that creates the sensation of toasted sourdough covered with grapefruit hop marmalade. While this beer is hopped like IPA, it drinks like Pale Ale. The light, refreshing qualities of this beer make it perfect for springtime.

Pours a hazy amber color with a head that dissipates but gathers in large bubbles along the side of the glass. Good lacing. Big citrus nose (Cascade hops?). Medium body, softly carbonated, long-lasting finish. Citrus hops flavor, along with caramel malt, and a coffee-like acidic and dry finish. A curious brew. Not what I was expecting. My wife handed hers to me to finish. I’m not complaining.

Big thanks to Honkeybra for this beautiful beer. Knocked back by the huge, beautiful citrus aroma. Lots of orange, grapefruit aroma and flavor. I’m pretty much in love with this beer.

12 oz bottle: Aroma has got a nice grapefruit and slight pine needle scent, lightly grassy, and no discernible malt. Appearance is golden with a slight amber color and a medium to small white head that lingers. Taste has got a nice balance of hop bitterness, while a decent malt backing. Grapefruit, pine needles, lightly chewy malt characteristic a little bit of a cereal and biscuit taste as well. Palate is medium carbonation, mouth feel is bitter on the tongue with a lingering pine note in the aftertaste. Overall, Decent stuff I liked it. Cheers!

Draft. Stopped in the brewery and had a little sampler of several beers. Light amber color with a slight white head. Nice hop aroma with citrus. The taste has the classic citrus rind taste along with a slight touch of spice. Earthy.

Sampled on tap at the MiBGF (Ypsilanti, MI). Pours a darker golden amber, light haze, frothy white head dies to a soapy film, laces a bit. Aromas are juicy amarillos, gumball and lemon with a touch of melon and grapefruit, light pale and sweeter toffee malts. Initial is lighter end of medium, decent hopping, florals and citrus pair with amarillo sweetness and gumball like feel, a nice drinker, decent fruity hopping. A solid hopped beer for quaffability, not necessarily for "hop shock". Still, a wonderfully balanced and flavorful hop melange’d APA

Draft pours glowing orange white head. Nose piney, orange, flavors are smooth and grapefruit rind, honey malt backbone, refreshing and easy drinking.

28th anniversary of pepsican being on earth, big thanks to Northernbrews for this one. Hazy amber pour with a nice sized white head that stuck around for the majority of the beer. Aroma had lots of caramel, but not quite enough to overpower the citrus and pine hops profile. Flavored followed through just how I hoped it would. Lots of hops but with enough toffee and caramel to try and help even it out. Finish was very dry and bitter, but not to the point of overpowering. Fresh as all get out on the hops, zero staleness, no weirdo malt or yeast profile. Bravo Short’s for making a damn near perfect Amber/APA.

Sampled at Schlafly’s 2010 Repeal of Prohibition Festival - Pours clear amber with a white head. The aroma is well balance with toasted malt and funky / floral hops. Medium body with fairly sharp carbonation. The flavor starts like the aroma, but the finish is a bit medicinal. Okay.

On tap at Shorts. Really good flavor without being too bitter. Smooth. Best beer I tried in my flight of five.

At tap shorts. All I wrote was "this is reddish amber with massive citrus hops, both in the nose and mouth".
