32 ounce howler into lager glass, filled today(1/20/2014). Pours slightly hazy golden straw color with a 1 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big pear, apple, grape, lemon zest, cracker, bread, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of malt, yeast ester, and light hop notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon zest, pear, apple, grape, cracker, bread, honey, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of pear, apple, grape, lemon zest, cracker, bread, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and robustness of malt, yeast ester, and light hop flavors; with a great malt/yeast balanced and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and slightly creamy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Czech pilsner! All around good balance and robustness of malt, yeast ester, and moderate hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

On tap at brewery. Aroma has light notes of cereal grains and not much hops. Hue is a pale yellow with a head that left little lace. Nothing special to note here. Just finished and moved on to something better.

4oz on tap at HopCat East Lansing during the Shorts tap takeover. Clear golden color. Thin ring of white head. Medium-bigger body. Soft, smooth carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Moderate zesty sweet taste, light bitter. Citrusy hoppy aroma, light spice, nice yeast profile. Solid pils. Interesting stuff.

Cereal and light honey malt nose, light floral hops. Lightly sweet taste, some honey and doughy malt, touch of lemon, and crisp apple. Tasty.

Draft at Great Taste. Pretty straight up Pils that shows they can brew normal beers too! Pours a pale gold with a sticky white head. Nose is full of bready pilsner malts and then some soft noble hops. Malt dominates. On tasting, it’s got a matzo thing going on that keeps it really bready and nice. Hops balance and keep it in line. Really tasty beer.

TheAlum (5701) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - AUG 14, 2011
Draft on tap at Great Taste of the Midwest 2011 (Madison, WI). Pours a lightly hazed dulled golden pour, a small frothy whitish head, that laces small. Aromas are pale bready malts, cereal grains, a touch of grassy and earthy hops. Dry, but mellow. Initial is ellow sweet breads, grain, touch of white pepper, dry grass. Into the middle mellow bread and pale malts, dry florals, grass, and some subtle spice. Into the finish offers some fruity, apple and lemon. Finish is dry and bready, spice clears up. Just a lot of bread. Interesting.

Sampled on draft at GTMW 2011. Pours a clear golden color with a large creamy white head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of grassy hops, grainy malts and an earthy note. The taste is grainy, nutty malts, grassy hops and a sweet finish. Medium bodied. Very nice.

Organic pilsener. It is actually one of the best American-made pilseners I have had. It is a bit too sweet and raw though, it resembles more of a Czech pils.

On Tap at the Short’s Brewpub. It was hot and I’m on a pilsener kick lately, so I was pretty interested in this one. Golden pour, white head. Aroma of pale malt, crackers, some leafy hops. Flavor is nice, pils and pale malts with a crisp hop finish. Pretty dead on. Medium bodied, good carbonation. Great pilsener from Short’s.
