3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz Bottle. Thanks, Sean! Pine and spice nose, heavy on the characteristic Shortís yeast and slightly seedy hop bill. Flavors run similarly and thereís one thing Iíve always appreciated about Shortís is that when they brew a bitter beer, itís damn bitter. I donít find the hop flavors all that concentrated or singular in this example and it makes it kind of generic, but itís clean, itís bristly, and yes, itís bitter.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Half scratched off, but the date seems to be 4/20/13 ... itís probably more likely to be 5/20/13 though, because I donít THINK Shortís was bottling this in April.
Appearance: I mean, come on. Look at the label. Look at the name of the beer. Totally outrageous -- I love it! The beer itself is an insanely hazy yellow color with a tiny head that doesnít last long. A white ring clings to the glass. Minimal lacing. I love that haze though... seemingly all of Shortís IPAs have that heavy haze.
Smell: Massive grapefruit. Some sweet malt aromas. I tend to love the smell of Shortís IPA brews, but am let down by the flavor. But this time...
Taste: Wow. Thank you very much, Shortís. Iíve been let down recently with some of the IPAs released, but this truly is outstanding. A short moment of almost flavorless sweetness on the front, but then the 156 IBUs punch you in the testicles as hard as possible, and then youíre given that tropical/grapefruit/earthy/herby/piney mix of hops... total hop bomb. Thereís some sweetness in there to try and balance it out, but thereís no doubt that this is one hell of a bitter IPA. The feel is thin initially with a mild/medium carbonation, but it seems to thicken up on the swallow.
An excellent beer if you want yourself an immensely bitter India Pale Ale. It looks good (dat haze!), it smells awesome, and it tastes very good. Thanks, Shortís. This was delicious.

2.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Man this beer is harsh. Pours a copper color with light head. Aroma is orange, pine, and soap. Taste is abrasive beyond belief. One sip just ramps up an insane medicinal bitterness that is not pleasant at all. finishes very soapy with more bitterness. blech! i really dont like this taste at all.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 5/20/2013. Pours lightly hazy golden amber color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of big mango, peach, pineapple, grapefruit, lemon zest, floral, light pine, light honey, and floral earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of tropical/citrus hops with a moderate malt balance; and good strength. Taste of grapefruit, mango, pineapple, lemon zest, pine resin, floral, light honey, and floral earthiness. Good amount of pine resin bitterness; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, pineapple, mango, pine, floral, light honey, and floral earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice balance and complexity of citrus, tropical, and piney hops with a light-moderate malt balance; and minimal cloying bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a crisp and sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent IPA. Great complexity of hop flavors with sizable bitterness and moderate malt balance; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs.; thanks mikem409). Looks good; a transparent light orange with fluffy white head that dissipates into thin lacing. Smells solid; a balanced hop profile with notes of orange and a nice, lightly sweet backbone. Tastes like it smells with a good, light mouthfeel. Good beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at The Oak Cafe. Pours a cloudy pale orange color with a nice foamy head that lingers nicely. Aroma is fresh grapefruit with some light pine. Taste is juicy grapefruit and its really good. Some pine and spicy hops come out in the finish with some grain too. Nice light sweetness with a moderate to strong bitterness. Medium body, slightly oily mouthfeel. Overall, this is definitely an IPA and not an APA. Very nice IPA for grapefruit lovers.
