COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Freedom of ’78 is a medium bodied IPA with a wonderful, bright clarity and pleasing bronze hue. The aroma is a unique fusion of citrus fruit and subtle pine qualities. The distinct characteristics of the guava nectar are impossible to miss, and attributes of tangerine, nectarine, and even faint honey flavors are detectable. The finish quickly turns to an expected IPA bitterness that turns dry during prolonged tastings

I love guava and this beer is so freaking sexy. Big guava and hop aroma. The perfect about of guava flavor. There should be more beers like this!!

Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Clear tawny amber brew with small head, looks like a fine wine in the glass. Aroma of papaya and tropical fruit. Taste is modestly sweet on the inward draw with tart kiwi and citrus coming forward, then papaya and moderately strong citrus hops emerge. An earthy spiciness steps up towards the finish - almost like a mild cumin - and grounds it. Ends with a blast of grapefruit. Wow! Lighter body, clean and refreshing, very drinkable, very good. Awesome.

Bottle, pours a clear amber with white head. The aroma is tropical fruit, hops, black peppercorn, a great smelling beer. Taste is more tropical fruit, never tried/smelled guava so I’ll call it melon and mango. Some light spice as well. Interesting brew, good stuff.

i absolutely love this beer. such an interested treat from shorts, they rarely disappoint. the aroma is so unique, pine, exotic fruit, and maybe even a little mary jane. golden, amber, honey look to it with minimal head but some lacing sticks around. taste is identical to the smell. nice bitterness and kinda dry. shorts is always doing some things that are a little different and we michiganders appreciate them. this beer is a unique change up from the cookie cutter IPAs and its a pleasure to drink.

Rich juicy hops aroma, mostly citrusy pineapple and orange. .bright and hoppy, mostly clear with a light spritz and thin white head. pale malt background and a sharp tangy hops bite. hops juice through and through - a very very nice brew. medium finish with a bit of alcohol buzz. excellent, shame it’s so much more expensive ($14.99 a sixer) than comparable IPAs around here.

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2014 The first time I had this one I loved it. I only had one bottle though. I had to wait a year for it to come out again and I instantly bought a case. I still really like it but not as much as I built it up in my head. Still a great beer and one of my favorites by the brewery. The guava is all over this thing. A big hop and tropical aroma. Just the right amount of carbonation. The tropical fruit comes out first in the taste and fades only slightly as it goes down. The hop bitterness meets in a running change and lingers on the tongue well after the sip with a very dry finish. A very drinkable beer. Definitely glad I got a case. Just another example of Shorts strutting their hop muscle.

Bottle: The aroma has lot of citrus, grapefruit, guava, pine, and light tropical fruit. It pours a transparent-golden orange with a small soapy off-white head with some sporadic webbing for lacing. The flavor starts with light sweet citrus and tropical fruits. The finish has moderate grapefruit, light guava, tartness, and pine. Light-medium bodied with soft carbonation. Obviously, very similar to beer brewed at Half Acre, but this one seems a little stronger with the grapefruit and less guava tartness in the finish. I prefer the Half Acre version just a tad...but will be drinking plenty of this while it’s fresh and available in 6-packs.

Bottle. Pours a beautiful copper color with a thin white head. Aroma is tropical fruits, citrus, floral. Flavor is guava, light caramel, and bitter hops. Palate is medium bodied, somewhat dry, moderate prickly carbonation, finished bitter. A very good IPA with just the right amount of guava.

Bottle from Styles. Fresh grapefruit, citrus, and orange peel aroma. Toasted malt emerges but it’s mostly citrusy and a bit herbal. The color is a darker shade of gold. This pours out with a good thick head and a thin foam settles on top for good. The flavor is certainly tropical fruity. Again, grapefruit and orange peel come to mind but it definitely tastes like guava too. The tropical fruit sweetness is countered by crisp hop bitterness and a bit of toasted almond. Sweet caramel lends support but it’s burried underneath the hops. My kind of IPA. Very good stuff. Thanks Chris!

Pours a crystal clear gold with a nice rocky head on it. Aroma is citrusy hops with a sweet malty background. medium body with pretty high carbonation. Flavor is mostly citrusy hops, with the guava & sweet maltiness behind it.
