• A noble spirit of the sacred humulus lupulus governing all the good of what is bitter
• Beer Type: Imperial IPA

Imperial Good Feller is an Imperial American India Pale Ale brewed exclusively with Amarillo and Simcoe hop varieties. Hop forward flavors of sweet grapefruit and bitter orange rind are backed by a simple malt bill allowing for a vibrant bitterness to project, but not overwhelm the finish.

Bottle number 459 of 798. Pours a coppery amber with no head. Nice malt and hop balance in the nose. Flavor is a tad bit too malty for an IIPA, but the hop comes through strong in the finish.

Sample at the Columbus Ratebeer gathering at ogglethorp’s 11/20/08: This brew is a mostly clear amber-red color with a thin and rocky light beige head. Spotty lacing. Resiny hops, caramel and malt in the nose. Medium-bodied with moderately bitter hops and grapefruit flavors along with some sweet caramel malt undertones. The finish is hoppy with a lingering bitterness left over. Solid all around.

750mL bottle #406 of 798 poured into a tulip. Pours a deep, deep hazy amber brown that clears up a little as it warms. The off-white head is small but lingers for quite a while and leaves decent lacing. The aroma is surprisingly hoppy for a beer of this age, with floral pine mixing with the citrus of grapefruit. There is also a huge caramel malt aroma underneath the hops with a bit of alcohol burn in the nose. The taste didn’t quite have the same hoppiness, but was still very good. There is a bit of pine bitterness up front but the taste is dominated by the huge caramel malt backbone. There is a trace of grapefruit on the tongue but I imagine this was a serious hop experience when fresh. The mouthfeel was super sticky with good carbonation that enhanced the hop bitterness. This is a big complex DIPA that was likely world class when first bottled. It’s still a damn fine beer and one I’m glad I got to try. Highly recommended!

750ml from mibirder - thanks, Sean! A shame I didn’t have a chance to sample this when fresh. Even after about 18 months, it’s still fairly robust and hoppy. The deep ruby pour still has impressive carbonation and an above average foamy head. Some strong bitter hops in the nose, but slightly overpowered by boozy heat. Sticky sweet malts with just a hint of roasts in there for backbone. The hops have retained their sweetness and have mostly lost their light floral quality. What you’ve got remaining is a solid American strong ale.

Aroma of hops, with a it of malt too. The beer is amber with nice head. Flavor is of course hoppy, but also balanced with some malt.

From a 750mL Bottle. Mostly hazy, caramel amber colored pour with a finger of tight bubbled ivory head. Big, west coast hop aroma of grapefruit, pine, and pithy lemon peel. There’s a substantial amount of hop character left in the aroma, although it has a plodding, pithy quality to it, presumably from age, rather than a bright freshness it likely displayed at a younger age. Hints of toffee malt sweetness in the background. Medium full bodied, lightly carbonated mouthfeel with a sticky caramel texture up front. Hop flavors are still pretty decent, although this perception could be clouded by the heaviness of the malt sugars that distort the palate’s vision. A bit herbal and grassy, but there’s still quite a bit of grapefruit and pine that comes through. This is actually holding up remarkably well, but the stickiness of the malt bill suggests it wasn’t remarkably better when fresh.

Shorts smagning med klubben.Uklar rav-rød med et lille hvidt skum. Sød maltet. noget græs, bær, masser af humle. Skjuler alkoholen godt.
