3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
The pour is a muddy hazy brown with head that dissipates quickly leaving a almost soapy/oil spill appearance film on top. Aroma is a sugary sweet, nutty, some piney earthyness, with a roasty chocolate. Taste is strong woody, roasty, nutty taste that has a spice and bitterness to the end that being a double is strong but I wouldn't to boozy tasting strong. Overall a good brew to me

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a really nice looking hazy dark stained wood tone, with a thinner khaki-toffee head that produces a finger worth of foam with a vigorous swirl and leaves some hanging soapy lace. Nose involves some brown sugar, milk chocolate, nuttiness, toast, some piney and spicy hops. Pretty sweet, but also pretty bitter. Medium bodied, softer carb, with a long toasty, piney finish. I like it. Itís sort of a strange mix, but it works.

Brown ale undertones get squashed by faded hops and the signature Short's ashtray taste. Clay-like powdery finish. One day maybe Short's will brew something that isn't awful. Maybe.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Appearance: Lookiní good. No lacing or head, but a nice, tiny bubbled foam on top of the beer. The beer is crystal clear, and a deep ruby color. Really probably the highlight for this.
Smell: Smoke, chocolate, malt. I get a burst of hops in the aroma as well if I swish the glass around a little bit and then take a whiff.
Taste/feel: Thankfully the taste is quite a bit better... and unique as well. Front of the tongue is malt, middle is chocolatey, and then the finish is some more malt with actually a very unusual but welcome hop presence, as well as a smokey/roasty aftertaste. Canít say Iíve ever had a brown ale with such notable hops in it, but I like it a lot. The beer is never too bitter or too sweet, thanks to the fabulous balance. Have you ever had a beer thatís had a blend of hops and chocolate? I havenít, but itís something that actually manages to work here.
A unique as hell brown ale ... really tastes like it was blended with an IPA, and it has a flavor Iím not sure Iíll find in another brown ale. Good Humans has an aroma that Iíd like to forget (Iím not sure why Iím smelling what I am)... but at least the taste and mouthfeel shine. The beer has got an unusual name and label, but it has a flavor that any beer geek ought to try. Unique. Thatís what best describes Good Humans.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours a dark brown. Mild mild coco aroma. Flavor of chocolate and brown sugar. Medium palate. Very very dry finish. Definitely a unique brew, but very solid. I enjoyed it and will drink again.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a muddy brown with a damn near razor thin head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of tree, raisins and brown sugar attack the nose. Very strong aroma with this one. Appearance is so-so. Looks like muddy water. Taste is rather boozy mixed with brown sugar and citrus. Palate is a little weaker than you would think you would get from a beer like this. Starts sweet ends bitter. Overall pretty decent beer though it didnít live up to my expectations but I put high expectations on Shortís beer because they make great beer. If you can find it, it try.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a hint of red and a moderate off-white head. Nose has a lot of rye or hay in there. Taste is slightly bitter, but super smooth. The grasses really come through, which is interesting...

3.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAR 11, 2013 Oddly, not much hop in the aroma; considerably more field hay, and certainly some malt. Pretty nice color, a deep, dark brown (and the tiniest bit of red) with enough translucence (a lot for a brown) to appreciate the color all the more in the light. Barely a film in terms of head though.
An appreciably dry brown ale. Caramel is there, though without sweetness, and a good amount of roast that borders on a woody taste, but stays short of smoke.
Pretty thin on the palate, especially for a brown. Not much of a lingering mouthfeel; initial flavor simply dissipates.
This is a beer I would love to successfully clone. In part because it has my favorite elements of a brown, without those characteristics (such as sweetness) that I donít favor. It is clean and simple, but rich and satisfying - an oft overlooked feat of brewing.
Edit: I cloned the fuck out of it; partial grain, and it compares pretty well! Definitely different mouthfeel (shortís is more spicy), and I would argue that I got a better aroma, but thatís probably due to freshness.
