Good Humans was created to showcase one of Briess Malting Company’s new malt varieties. Originally planned as a one-time thing, it quickly became one of our big successes. Good Humans is a Double Brown Ale made with Carabrown Malt, and then dry hopped with Simcoe hops. The brew has sweet malty esters that are met by huge toasted caramel and toffee flavors. The finish is dry with a bouquet of hops.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a hint of red and a moderate off-white head. Nose has a lot of rye or hay in there. Taste is slightly bitter, but super smooth. The grasses really come through, which is interesting...

UPDATED: MAR 11, 2013 Oddly, not much hop in the aroma; considerably more field hay, and certainly some malt. Pretty nice color, a deep, dark brown (and the tiniest bit of red) with enough translucence (a lot for a brown) to appreciate the color all the more in the light. Barely a film in terms of head though. An appreciably dry brown ale. Caramel is there, though without sweetness, and a good amount of roast that borders on a woody taste, but stays short of smoke. Pretty thin on the palate, especially for a brown. Not much of a lingering mouthfeel; initial flavor simply dissipates. This is a beer I would love to successfully clone. In part because it has my favorite elements of a brown, without those characteristics (such as sweetness) that I don’t favor. It is clean and simple, but rich and satisfying - an oft overlooked feat of brewing. Edit: I cloned the fuck out of it; partial grain, and it compares pretty well! Definitely different mouthfeel (short’s is more spicy), and I would argue that I got a better aroma, but that’s probably due to freshness.

bottle. really unique, I commend shorts on getting something unique and right at the same time. I don’t know if i’d drink it often given its strength but its a good beer and something different

Pours brown and smells like pine and metal.. Doesnt really open up after a long wait. Kinda strange and solvent like not a huge fan.

Doesn’t pass the eye test, but wows in it’s results. Perfect balance for a hoppy brown. I thought the hop punch was perfect for this style of beer.

Bottle shared thanks to Dave. Pours out a moderate reddish brown color with a small white head. Aroma is of caramel, some citrusy hops, burnt sugar, chocolate, earth. Taste is caramel, grainy bread, burnt sugar, roasty earth notes, light hop punch and a rather dry finish.

12oz bottle via trade. Poured a so-so looking chunky chocolate brown with an average, at best, foamy light beige head. Aroma of pineapple and chocolate syrup up front, followed by toast and dry chocoalte malts. The body is a bit thin overall with average carbonation and a dry finish. This one was actually a bit on the dry side for how sweet the chocolate is on the aroma. Flavor is dry with notes of dry pineapple candy, dry chocolate, toast, citrus rind, some old ice cream notes.

Appealing malt aroma and amber brown appearance with a complex taste and small lingering mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
