COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Good Humans was created to showcase one of Briess Malting Company’s new malt varieties. Originally planned as a one-time thing, it quickly became one of our big successes. Good Humans is a Double Brown Ale made with Carabrown Malt, and then dry hopped with Simcoe hops. The brew has sweet malty esters that are met by huge toasted caramel and toffee flavors. The finish is dry with a bouquet of hops.

Bottle to snifter. Looks good; brown with some head and CO2. Smells decent; malty and hoppy. Tastes pretty good; much like it smells. Okay on the palate. Good, but not great.

Originally reviewed: 1/31/11. 12oz bottle poured into a chalice. Pours a dirty amber-brown with no head at all. Just a ring sits rests along the edge. This leaves some light lace behind. The nose is surprisingly citrusy. Big notes orange, pineapple, then the malts come through more with some brown sugar and faint breads. This smells like a standard Pale. The mouth is light and carbonated well. This helps in drinkability quite. The flavors are different from standard Browns I’ve had. The citrus aspect carries over here as well, with flavors of lemon, orange and mild bitterness from the hops. The usual Brown characteristics are fleeting, if not absent. Some mild malty sweetness on the back end. This was a different take. I guess the more I have from these guys, the more I learn that they like to push the envelope a bit on the styles and ingredients. I’d have it again, I guess, but not when I’m looking for a Brown Ale.

Bottle pour into pint glass. Translucent red-brown color reminds me of Coca-Cola without as much carbonation. Enjoyed what the taste offered: dry, hoppy, roasted malt. This is a good brew to pair with a burger (or other "heavy" sandwich) and fries.

Sampled at an esbls tasting. Big fruity malty aroma. Sourness first. Fruit and complex unripened fruit. Interesting. A brewpub that I really like.

bottle thanks to mikem (i think). poured brown with a beige head and a few spots of lace. aroma was chocolate, caramel, toffee, and maybe the slightest bit of butter. flavor was pretty much the same as the flavor plus a slight bitter on the finish. body was medium-full with low carbonation.

Bottle. Pours a dark murky reddish-brown with a huge foamy cream head that lingers. Aroma is sweet and hoppy, with malt, dark fruits, sugar, wood. Taste of sweet malt, citrus hops, wood, dark fruits. Lingering sweet and hoppy. The bottle’s aged a bit too long, but still pretty tasty.

From notes. First reviewed 1/31/2011. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass. The color of the beer is walnut brown, with a ruby tint in the edges of the glass. A creamy head with an eggshell hue forms initially, eventually fading to a ring and leaving a little lacing on the glass. I am not really getting any dry hopped aroma. Roast malt, some molasses, and dark fruits - fig and raisin mostly, but a very modest aroma. Molasses, plums and figs introduce the flavor up front, followed by some roasted malt and soft nutty flavors. There is a light citrus and spice kick at the end, but there is just not much hop presence here. Good Humans is lightly sticky but mostly clean. Medium carbonation and a medium body. I was expecting a dry-hopped brown ale, and I got mild dark fruit and much hop presence. Maybe this was just a bad bottle based on the other reviews, but there was almost no hop presence.

Bottle. Pretty reddish brown with thick steady cream head. Nose is metallic and lightly fruity. Flavor is sour, acetic cherry, more metal. It’s seriously infected. I know because I had this once before and it was not infected then and tasted more like a hoppy brown.

What’s with the name? Bottle from SanChez in Grand Rapids, MI. Dark brown with a good head. Dark malty aroma with fruity hops. The taste is malty, with moderate hop taste, and some peppery spice. The aroma really elevates this beer to something greater than it would otherwise be; dry-hopping really made sense here. Sipped from a long tall glass, every sip was greeted with a delicious scent.
