superspak (2203) - Michigan, USA - JAN 15, 2014
12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/22/2013. Pours slightly hazy ruby brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, orange zest, lemon zest, caramel, toast, brown sugar, chocolate, coffee, light nuttiness, floral, grass, light pine, and floral/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop and dark/roasted malt notes; with good strength. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, toast, cocoa, light coffee, brown bread, light nuttiness, floral, grass, pine, and floral/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of earthy floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, brown sugar, cocoa, brown bread, light coffee, light nuttiness, floral, pine, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of dark/roast malt flavor with moderate hop presence; with good robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately creamy and smooth mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice imperial brown ale. All around good balance, complexity, and robustness of dark/roast malt and moderate hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

jmgreenuk (3570) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - JAN 14, 2014
Bottle at the De Molen Second Tuesday Tasting, January 2013. Poured a clear dark brown with a round white glass-hugging head. The aroma is resin hop and a little caramel. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a soft, slightly watery woody hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with flat carbonation.

Bottle @2nd Tuesday tasting at De Molen, hosted by dEnk. Clear dark brown pour, thin off-white head. Aroma of caramel, cookies, chocolate and spices. Flavor is quite sweet, with a rather bitter finish, some spices and a bit thin. Slightly boozy but rather nice.

One of my least favorite styles which has kept me from trying this until know. This is a big chewy brown with nice piney hops, great mouthfeel, and a non-cloying finish that made me think "damn; get down...that is a fine brown." Hell ya.

Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Nose is caramel with pine and lemon zest. The mouthfeel is smooth, medium body. Chocolate and caramel, very well balanced with mostly indiscriminate hops, a tinge of pine. Good brown.

12 oz bottle. Practically clear, deep amber body with a small beige head. Nice and strong aroma of caramel malt, chocolate and dry fruit. Flavor is sweet and malt driven with caramel, dry fruit and relatively bitter. Fine, strong body and a long aftertaste with balanced bitterness. Tasty and refreshing, nice and pretty close to a strong brown ale.
