bottle. Brown with one finger head. Rich brown ale with a big hoppy finish. Sweet with caramel, chocolate and toffee initially. Then the hops hit. Good stuff indeed.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a hazy dark brown color. There’s about one fingers worth of off-white colored head. The head has a nice texture, decent retention, and leaves some nice rings of lacing behind. S: The hops here are pretty spicy, but a bit faded. Therefore, that leaves the malt to do much of the heavy lifting - in this case, it’s a dry and nutty backbone instead of a sweet and fruity one. Just a kiss of dark fruit exists behind the malt/hop mixture. Its aroma doesn’t work amazingly, but it does work solidly. T: Going by the flavor profile, the hops - in their current state - only act as a ballast for the maltiness. It starts with a combination of molasses and a kiss of Centennial hops, and finishes with a decent amount of licorice, and a minor raisiny undercurrent. While not all the flavors (read: the licorice) fully appeal to me, it is a mildly complex, balanced brown ale. M: The feel is rather thin, with a little bit of lingering sweetness. There isn’t much carbonation here, either. Nonetheless, the slender, slightly flat feel gives it great drinkability for 8%. O: Nothing too special here. Basically, it’s just a decent, easy drinking brown ale the does a good job of belying its alcohol content. I wouldn’t seek this out, but I’d gladly kill this six pack with minimal effort.

The beer has a caramel, toasted, bready aroma. Pours a dirty golden color, hazy with a small amount of off white head. Taste is slightly sweet with some bitterness. Odd combination. Medium body with a lingering bitter aftertaste. Overall, this is a well brewed beer but imperial brown ale, mixing sweetness and bitterness is an odd combination. The beer is advertised as only 19 IBU, but the Carabrown malt used in the brewing process lends significant burnt, toast, toffee flavors that provide much more perceived bitterness.

Dark brown pour - ruby red where the light passes through on the edges - with a thin, soapy head. Aroma of brown sugar, chocolate and even a little bourbon. Tastes like brown bread with raisins, very light coffee roast/bitterness. Warm and boozy finish. Pretty good for a brown ale, but brown ales aren't the greatest. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Caramel, chocolate, nutty, roasty aroma. Dark brown color with minimal head. Medium bitter taste, light body with soft carbonation and a bitter finish. Well-hopped brown ale with a good malty balance.
