Probably could take over Two Hearted as my favorite all around drinking beer. Damn this stuff is good. Pounded back about 12 of these before the Lions game a few weeks ago.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a hint of red and a moderate off-white head. Nose has a lot of rye or hay in there. Taste is slightly bitter, but super smooth. The grasses really come through, which is interesting...

Pours a deep dark mahogany/chestnut brown color with deep golden ruby hues when held to a light source and a two finger off white head that slowly fades into a lasting cap and ring. Very hoppy aroma with lots of sweet citrus character and a touch of earthy pine. Lots of sweet citrusy lemon and orange peel as well as some grapefruit, subtle mango and pineapple. The nose is dominated by these hop characteristics but underneath there are some slightly roasted dark malt notes with hints of hazelnut, toffee and caramel. It is shocking to me really how hoppy this beer smells. The typical brown ale notes are over shadowed but are faintly noticeable. Very hop forward, especially for the style with lot of dry bitter pine notes as well as a very prominent sweet citrus presence. Hints of orange and lemon peel along with some grapefruit and mango. Medium bodied with a slightly creamy texture mid palate. The hops are prominent and linger throughout but are nicely balanced by a slightly toasty caramel malt backbone. Hints of toffee and hazelnut as well as some biscuit. These notes are noticeable underneath but this beer is truly dominated by the dry bitter and sweet citrus hop notes. This beer is truly unique and a welcome twist to the style. Very complex and flavorful with a very dry finish.

Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Clear medium / dark brown brew with small head, ample lacing. Striking aroma of sweet malts, earth, grassy hops, spice. Taste is sweet malt at the start transitioning to a wonderfully complex blend of eathy tasts, spice, and a final flourish of complex bitter, with grassy tones dominating. Smooth as satisfying palatt. A fine, fine brew.

Pours a reddish brown with off white head that rims the glass. Aroma of caramel, maple syrup, roast, and strong hops. Flavor is fruity, with a strong hop presence and a bit of roast in the finish. Some caramel notes also. Very well balanced, with a great hop presence. Overall, I wasn’t expecting much when I bought it because this was a brown ale and I hate brown ales, but this is excellent.

Brown pour, light tan head. Aroma is really cool. Caramel, hops, grapefruit, toffee and some nuts. Flavor is a really cool mix of citrus, grass, caramel, and roasted nuts. Damn good brew.

Bottle. Beautiful translucent deep red body, thin buff head. Rich nose with interesting bitter pine needle hops fading to chocolate; the aroma reminds me of Three Floyds Alpha Klaus. Nice complex body with heavier malt emphasis than suggested by the hoppy nose, with dark fruit, brown sugar, and chocolate finishing with a leafy hops bitterness. Vinous. I look forward to my next bottle, as half of my first ended up on the carpeting and couch.

Pailhead (3848) - Plymouth, Michigan, USA - DEC 18, 2009
Bottle: The aroma is loaded with citrus and piney hops and barely a hint of chocolate. It pours a transparent reddish-orange with a small soapy beige film for a head. The flavor starts with a quick dose of caramel and chocolate that is quickly overtaken by lots of citrus and pine hops. Light bodied with a soft mouthfeel.
