Hopstach typifies the boldness that comes from American hop varieties. The aroma is dominated by fruity ale yeast esters and fragrant grapefruit tones. Initial malt sweetness is low, and citrus fruit and floral hop qualities overpower any other perceived flavors. Aided by the addition of grapefruit zest, the finish is a sharp hop shock that electrifies the mouth, but is not overly bitter.

Poured from a bottle dated 5/29/2015. Aroma is moderately malty with some cracker malt notes and light toasted bread. Moderate grapefruit aroma with some pine resin and some dank wood notes. A bit of an odd phenolic note similar to decomposing wet grass. Pours a hazy, dull, golden orange with a small, moderately thick white head that exhibits decent retention as it recedes to the edges where it lingers. Moderate lacing and small legs. Flavor starts with a light sweetness and some cracker and light caramel notes. Moderately strong bitterness. Moderate grapefruit notes with some lighter orange and pine resin. A light dank note with some lingering cracker malt character. None of the weird note that was in the aroma. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright beer but grapefruit sculpin is much better. The odd aroma is off putting, but the flavor is better. The flavor is pretty light on the grapefruit zest though.

On tap at The Laundry. Pours cloudy golden with a nice white head and a citrus aroma. There is a very dry pale malt flavor with lots of body and a long dry citrus finish.

12oz bottle into tulip. Minneapolis. Pours light copper-orange. Transparent. Small white head. Aroma is sweet and grainy with some citrus aromas. Not very bitter at all. Taste is sweet with bitterness in the finish. Body is medium with a long finish.

Pretty pronounced grapefruit aroma. Malt is quite subdued, just a bit of a bready aroma. Light amber color and just slightly cloudy. Slight off white head. Taste is a fairly heavy hop bitterness; pretty dry and crisp, not much sweetness. Medium body; carbonation is just a touch lively; finish is rather long and bitter, but crisp and clean. Overall this is a good IPA; the grapefruit is prominent, but works well due to the crisp, clean taste or texture.

The aroma is excellent. The appearance is as well. It taste very similar to all of my favorite IPAs, only with a touch of grapefruit. It hits the palate perfectly. I give it a 100.

Bottle. Pours a clear yellow-gold with a fine white head. Smells of citrus and grapefruit, hints of sweetness underneath. The taste of grapefruit is definitely there, though it doesn’t scream grapefruit in the way that Grapefruit Sculpin does; this is much better balanced. Fruity, citrus hops. A moderate bitterness that builds. Average carbonation; medium bodied; bitter, lightly dry finish.
