COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hopstach typifies the boldness that comes from American hop varieties. The aroma is dominated by fruity ale yeast esters and fragrant grapefruit tones. Initial malt sweetness is low, and citrus fruit and floral hop qualities overpower any other perceived flavors. Aided by the addition of grapefruit zest, the finish is a sharp hop shock that electrifies the mouth, but is not overly bitter.

Poured into a Samuel Adams "Perfect Pint" glass. The appearance on this one is a really hazy yellow color. The head isnít very big, and doesnít last long at all. Very little lacing left in the glass as well. Aroma is unbelievable, and one of the best smelling beers Iíve ever whiffed -- massive grapefruit and tropical smells... truly outstanding. Unfortunately, the taste was a bit of a let down. The front of each sip tasted almost exactly like the aroma -- sweet, grapefruity. The rest of the sip and aftertaste though was primarily of bitterness, and it didnít have me jumping up and down. The carbonation isnít harsh, but the bitterness in this make it much more of a sipperís IPA. This site calls it a pale ale, but Hopstache is no doubt an IPA. A fantastic smelling beer, but a slight let down flavor-wise.

Tap: Pure, goldenrod body with some amber towards the center; cloudy, foamy white head takes its time settling as it leaves some nice, webbed lacing on the glass. Aroma is a Citra hop explosion with heavy grapefruit rind, pineapple, orange peel, dripping wet hop oils, pine sap, resin. Hint of dankness... but dat grapefruit. Flavor is the same way - blast of bitter grapefruit. Dry & bitter. But not overly done. Lupulin gold with pine, resin, grapefruit, citrus rind, & unripe pineapple. Hint of peppery & herbal hops towards the finish, reaching back towards that pine profile. Clean, dry finish. No malt to be found. A delicious IPA, probably my favorite from Shortís.

12oz bottle, thanks to umich03jm. Hazy orange golden color. Thin ring of head. Some loose bits of lace. Medium body. Smooth, crisp, lighter carbonation. Lightly dry finish. Good bready malt. Citrus hop, light pine, good grapefruit zest. Very balanced flavor profile. Very easy drinking and refreshing. Good moderate bitter, lighter sweet taste. Awesome stuff. Like so many Shorts beers, very easy to drink. So poundable. I love that. Great stuff. Big thanks to Jason for this one. The type of beer you could drink all day. Iíd write and contemplate more on this but my beer disappeared. Would be worth getting a sixer of this.

Aroma is grapefruit, sweet, somewhat piny, a touch light. Appearance is straw gold, white head. Taste is smooth, somewhat light, balanced between hops and grapefruit. Pretty bitter and dry finish. Mouthfeel is nice, sweet, not too carbonated, nice easy drinker. Overall, itís pretty good stuff but I expected the grapefruit to come out more. Anyway, worth a shot for sure.

Bottle, thanks mrebeks. Pours a very cloudy pale orange with a small foamy head that fades to a ring and leave nice soapy lacing. Aroma grapefruit juice and grapefruit rinds. Also has some flowers and crackers. Taste like juicy grapefruit juice without the tartness. Peppery and spicy in the finish. Some cracker/bread malt is present too. Delcious stuff if you like grapefruit.

Grapefruit really comes through in this one. Blends well with flavors of citrus hops, moderate caramel and hints of wheat and pepper. Very refreshing beer. Shorts knows their IPAs.

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2014 First had on tap at Michigan Summer Beer Fest. A huge want for me for a long time. It definitely lived up to what I hoped it to be. My perfect style. Has a nice citrus hop aroma. A very clean taste. A light refreshing hop flavor upfront with a grapefruit flavor following it up. A crisp hop tingle is left to linger. Extremely drinkable. Another great IPA by Shorts.
