3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
$2 single poured into a shaker pint. Bottling date scratched off or something, but this was bottled recently.
Appearance: Poured aggressively and got a very nice, two-finger head on it. Spotty lacing. A great hazy, yellow color.
Smell: Subtle. Certainly a lager with that lager yeast aroma, but thereís also a biscuity character with a dash of hops, as well as a slight soapiness. Not much there, but whatís there is nice.
Taste/feel: First thing I notice is a huge mouthfeel thatís almost excessive -- thereís a big body on this beer that I wasnít quite expecting. Carbonation is also light throughout the sip. The taste on this one is fairly simple, but still very pleasing. Biscuity, lagery flavor on the front morphs a bit into a slightly soapy resinous pine hop flavor that finishes dry and slightly bitter. Not overly complex, but has enough depth of flavor to keep things interesting.
Not sure what to make of this beer. I could say that a slightly thinner feel with a bit of a higher carbonation would make the beer better, but would it? The body makes this beer stand out, I think. Howliní Chinaski is a beer thatís slightly above average, and one that Iíd have again given the chance. Itís a beautiful pour, and above average in every other category as well. Pick it up if you can find it -- another tasty Shortís Brew.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from sampler at meijer Oxford. Nose is bready and sweet. Initial taste is cheap hookerish and reminds me of cheap wine. Off tasting yeastiness and not great aftertaste.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a hazy straw colored gold. Medium off-white head that sticks around a minute before breaking into spotty lacing. Aromas a bready yeast, grass, earth, citrus and some floral sweetness. Taste is unadventurous at first. Notes of bread, grains and some syrupy malt sweetness. A bit thick for the style but the balance of flavors makes this palatable. Finishes nicely with some dry hop notes. Pretty crisp and juicy. Not my favorite style, but something for a warm summer day, no doubt.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
bottle. Deep golden with small head. Itís a bready Dortmunder, with some strange German hops that I really donít like. I think itís probably my own issue here, these hops just donít fit the rest of the beer (for me).

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz Bottle. Thanks Sean! Sweet pale malt aroma, with a bit of high alcohol and honey. Begins with a thick, sweet graininess and lots of pale malt sugars. Itís a bit languid and slow moving, not as racy or shimmering as the style can be. This syrupy middle is redeemed by a nice, fresh, juicy hop bite in the back. The alcohols and fermentation are a touch messy, but I enjoy the strong European hop finish.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a mostly clear but slightly hazy straw golden with a thick eggshell head that settles to a film and leaves a couple spots of lace. Nose involves prominent crusty bread notes, clean yeast, noble hop aromas getting toward skunky. Lightly sweet, fairly bitter. Medium bodied, softer yet actively carbed, oily, with a long lightly citric and fruity bitter finish. Good brew, pretty simple but refreshing as it should be.

Bottle: The aroma consists of light-moderate citrus notes, cereal notes, light grass, and a touch of honey. It pours a dull gold with a touch of haze and a small white head that quickly fades to a thin layer outlined by a slightly thicker ring. There is some minimal webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with a quick light dose of sweet cereal and grain notes. The finish has light-moderate grass, floral notes, and a touch of herbal notes. Itís light-medium bodied with mild carbonation. Overall, Iíd like to see this in 6-packs

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle to pint. Clear golden appearance. Decent scent of grain and corn. Taste is herbal, grassy hops and grain. Goes down really easy. Better than I was expecting, seems like a good take on the style.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
goofy name but a regular-sounding brew from shorts. malt body with just enough grassy and hay hops character to balance out; at first sniff itís a high quality lager, mostly true to style. a very nice and easy to drink dort/helles, just a bit of caramel and toast. classic, if a bit on the hoppy side for the style.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 1/6/2014. Pours lightly hazy pale golden straw color with a 1 finger dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice soapy lacing clings down the glass, with plenty of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of pear, apple, cracker, bread, biscuit, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of malt, hop, and yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of biscuit, bread, cracker, pear, apple, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of bread, biscuit, cracker, pear, apple, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on this finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and robustness of malt, hop, and yeast ester flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, bready, and moderately crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good dortmunder style. Good balance and robustness of malt, hop, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
