A complex malt and hop theme park in your mouth
Huma Lupa Licious’ name derives from the hop plant, Humulus lupulus. It is Short’s best-selling India Pale Ale. Huma Lupa Licious is brewed with five different hop varieties, providing a punch to the palate. Between the beer’s abundance of hops, and the type of hops used in its creation, it has a delicious bitter taste and enticing citrus aroma. The hearty malt bill melds well with the hops for a perfect balance.

Huma Lupa Licious is the product of Joe Short wanting to create the ultimate IPA experience. Originally, Huma Lupa Licious was named Humulus Lupulus Maximus, and went through several recipe changes before settling on the recipe we know and love today.

Bottle from my Mich. beer trip. Pours a hazy orange with white foamy head that quickly reduces to a thin skim. Good lacing. Smells of citrus, faintly, and not much else. Tastes...bitter! Love it. Nice resiny punch in the mouth with slight citrus and pine notes. Awesome.

Bottle. Aroma of dank hops. Look of lightly cloudy orange with nice head. Flavor is citrus, grass dank hops and a touch of sweetness and balanced bitterness.

Poured from a bottle. Pours a hazy golden Amber with a huge thick white head. Medium carbonation and plenty of lacing. Strong aroma of sweet candy corn and malts. Medium body. Taste starts out very bitter then gets extremely bitter leaving an unpleasant harsh citrus rind aftertaste in the back of the mouth. I didn't like this at all! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. bottle, consumed on 4-24-16. Pours a clear brass with a large amount of cream-colored head. Many small bubbles rising. Produces good lacing. I like the bubbles, foam, and lacing, but otherwise a boring appearance. Some yeast haze and thicker, smoother head in the final pour elevates the appearance. Scents of lemon and almost mint. A basil herbality to the smell. Dry taste with a dry, bitter finish. Hoppiness is clearly present and in fact dominant yet at the same time subdued. I wonder if I have an older bottle, although it can’t be too old. Not a lot of complexity in the hops; mostly just dryness/bitterness. I like a classic, bitter IPA, but it’s hard for me to give one a particularly high score. A malty sweetness does develop upon multiple sips. Soft in the palate. Medium body. Filling. Unremarkable palate effects. Overall, an okay IPA and beer but nothing special.

12 oz bottle. Hazy gold color with a thin white head, fair lacing. Appearance of some suspended solids. Aroma cut grass, grapefruit, pine, and tropical fruit. Initial flavor is a hop bomb which lingers on the tongue, pine and bitter greens. But, light fruity malts do follow. Orange, banana, apricot. Medium body. Decent but not very well balanced.

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home after a nice run. Appearance is a cloudy amber gold with a small white head. Aroma is rich in dirty hops, smells 'dank'. Taste is pretty good, more hoppy than other IPA's out there. Good stuff.

Sweet, malty and balanced. Earthy, some breadiness, piney some bitterness at the finish. A solid IPA in the Midwestern style.

On tap at Hopcat. Unsurprisingly haven't had this. Solid IPA. Very grassy nose. Drinkable.

Hoppy aroma with pineapple, bready malt and toffee, sweat (yes, sweat); dull, dark golden color with a bubbly off-white head; slightly sweet toasted malts, cooked grapefruit, something leafy, weird rye bread crust or nutty/peppery something that I don’t much like in the middle, dried fruits mixed with fruit pits, ample bitterness with resiny flavors, astringent finish; medium-full body, smooth; I don’t really like this IPA much at all, but my girlfriend seems to be enjoying it. 121 fl oz bottle from Trader Joe’s in Cincinnati, Ohio.

On tap at Rozi’s. Aroma of rye malt and some piney hops with a little astringent alcohol. Pours pretty light golden with medium head with nice lace. Flavor is same as aroma, toasted rye malt with bitter pine hops and some alcohol. Overall not bad ipa. Might not have rye malt but it has that flavor and finishes nice and bitter.

Bottle pour avg gold with moderate white head. Nose pine, light dank, hint of fruit hop, biscuit. Taste moderate bitter bite up front, pine and dank hop. Mild balancing sweetness. Lighter bitter finish. Just an old school IPA.
