2.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: FEB 7, 2009 Tasted at the Carolina Crew gathering, Greenville - thanks to Paul Philippon for sharing! Okay this holiday season rip off a branch of christmas tree, chew on for a while and thats the flavor you have here. Tried it twice, but its just to in your face with resinous pine and piney hops. Slightly hot finish. BLAM!!! is right

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
0.75 l bottle at Konttori, Tampere. Golden-orange color. Very pungent spruce aroma. Bittersweet flavor overpowered with spruce. There is also notes of lemon, honey, warming alcohol and herbal hops. Long sprucey and bitter aftertaste. This is like swallowing spruce needles, I could hardly finish my one third share of the bottle.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pours a thick hazy deep amber color, half inch of off white head that stays around. Freaky muted minty aroma. Flavor shows loads of heavy, minty spruce flavor, and a distinct medicinal quality. Palate is thick and syrupy, though finish suprisingly clean. An interesting brew, but not very drinkable or enjoyable.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. I love imperial pilsners. LOVE them. This beer really disappointed. The smell was awesome, crisp, piney, lots of fresh wheat notes. On my first sip I was crushed. It tasted like a tree branch, with strong sappy notes and wet bark. The finish was almost metallic but really just reminded me of when I was young and would twist and turn at a branch off the christmas tree until my hands were just raw with the scent of pine wood and sap. No malt character detectable, as the hops and bitters just dominate in a strange strange way. Seems like they used a weird sugar or something.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours an orangish straw yellow with thick white head, decent lacing. Aroma obvious of citrus hops, spruce, herbal hops, resin, and grass. Flavor is overbearing with spruce, major medicinal character, and even a chemical nature. This just doesn’t work for me.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Tasting at Papsoe
Hazy golden color; creamy head. The rosemary aroma reminds me a roasted chicken more than a beer. It seems a very solid Ale, with good malt, some sweetness, good hopping, unfortunately the rosemary (spruce) is so out of place. 10 years ago, following an ancient recipe, I brewed a beer with rosemary from my garden, it was undrinkable. Controversial, and I decide for thumbs down, as I did 10 years ago.

1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is like a bad perfume: lavender, rosemary, soap, ginger, spice, pepper and some hops. When I tasted this I thought it would be bad for my health to drink it. Like there were chemicals in there which should not be there. Funny to try :) .

1.5 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
(750ml bottle) Pours a hazy golden body with a moderate white head. Aroma is very foul with notes of rotten eggs and spruce. Flavor of spruce, grass, and some offensive herbal qualities. I found this to be one of the less desirable beers I have had in quite awhile, though others that I shared this with raved about it. To each their own, I suppose. Interesting as I typically enjoy spruce beers.
