Cloudy light brownish pour. Aroma is, well, not good. Funky, sweetish, weird coconut/plastic. Flavor? Damn its just as bad. I didnt this beer at all. Totally confused to be honest. What on earth is going on?

Draft. Chocolate, coconut, and nut aroma. Amber with minimal head. Very sweet (not quite cloying but close) chocolate coconut and almond flavor. with alcoholic finish. Very nicely blended. Like eating an Almond Joy and chasing it with a bit of vodka.

On tap at Sunset for their Shorts event prior to EBF. Pours a hazy caramel brown. Smells a bit like an almond joy, with coconut and nuts, toast and cocoa. Chewy roast and cocoa, malt. Decent enough, but nothing overly special. Long sweetness on the finish.

Draft at EBF. Pours an amber bruin body with a white head. Hints of licorice, sweet coconut sugar tones. light birch and wood with a creamy sweetness. Kinda delivers what they were going for.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Beershine (5174) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - OCT 9, 2011
@ GABF. Rusty copper. A bit muddled but has a decent cap. Aroma is not as good as expected. Almond skins, toasted, but none of the pleasant almond extract/essence/marzipan I would hope for in the aromas. the flavors end up being too sweet, though, and it has a syrupy palate. Toasted almond and toasted coconut emerge late, giving a macaroon quality. Weird and gimmicky but a nice try and it grows on me.

Reviewed from notes.
Pours a medium caramel-brown color with a thin off-white head and a bit of lacing. The nose carries in some roast, chocolate, and toasted coconut. A bit of a nutty character. The flavor is along the same lines, though there’s something a bit off about it, perhaps tracing to the coconut. Chocolate makes a good appearance along with a moderate malty sweetness. Medium body and fairly sweet. Slight dryness in the finish. Really interesting brew.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 arminjewell (4206) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - OCT 22, 2011
On tap pour was clear reddish orange with white head, aroma was big, almost artificial almond notes with some sweet biscuity, toffee, notes as well. Taste was lots of almond, sweet fruity and caramel notes finishing very sweet. While the resemblance to almonds was pretty cool, it was a bit much and a bit too sweet.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 NobleSquirrel (3336) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 19, 2011
Draft at GABF. Penny copper with offwhite head. Nose is sweet with butterscotch interplay and cherry stone almond extract. Some cocoa sort of shows up but not really. On tasting, slick and buttery with some toasted coconut and almond. Also showing some phenolic notes as well. Doesn’t work for me, though a good idea.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Silphium (2976) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - APR 23, 2011
6th Annual MBG Winter Beer Festival, Grand Rapids. Murky dark brown body, thick cream head. Nose of almond and light chocolate, quite sweet. The body is very sweet and syrupy, caky, with brown sugar, almond, and a touch of banana, drinks like a slice of almond cake. Strange.
