An experimental IPA made with blue spruce tips, juniper berries, and cranberries. Piney evergreen and sweet berries tingle the senses. After some slightly tart and tangy flavors up front, a harmonious balance between pleasant fruit sweetness and bitter pine is reached. A sizable malt bill, ample hop additions, and the floral fruity qualities of American Ale yeast all contribute to symmetry of this beer. The finish is laced with a resiny stickiness that flows naturally into a lasting bitterness. 7.5% ABV

Tap. Clear gold. Some nicer lacing. Slightly spicy nose. Smooth. Mellow hopping with some twangs of cranberry, juniper. Refreshing, actually.

UPDATED: DEC 14, 2014 This one is a weird one. It does look nice in a tulip. Copper, with the carbonation bubbles sparking to the top. Thin white lacing. The smell is unpleasant for a beer. Reminds me of Capín Crunch. A lot of IPAs have a pine resin taste, but I imagine this is what it is like to drink a pine tree. Berry taste to it - assuming it is juniper, but I have never had juniper berries before. There is a malt to it, which once again reminds me of soggy Capín Crunch (probably due to the smell triggering it). So...donít care for the smell, the taste is pretty good, but at the end the stickiness in my mouth brings me back to soggy Capín Crunch. I could drink this again easily enough...but I donít think I would be seeking it out.

I dont know what to say about this beer.... It is so far from the beaten path that I dont even know where it is... Its sort of like licking a pine tree after eating a thanksgiving dinner... props go to shorts for making something this weird...

Wife and I enjoyed six pack (not in one day). Shortsí spruce offerings may not be for everyone, but I have loved everyone I tried. Bright, clean, gold color with little head. Fresh spruce aroma. Really different beer. Not as busy tasting as the description, but a brief appearance of tartness, then hops, spruce and juniper. Spruce finish.

Aroma almost has a spruce quality with a touch of vanilla. Lots of lace, clear amber appearance. Tastes mildly bitter, of hops and gin like bitterness on the end. Palate is nice and fizzy. Overall, mild yet flavorful, very enjoyable.

Pours a pale gold with a light white head. Aroma is fruit and spruce. Flavor is similar, but the combination makes it taste a lot like mold. Sadly this ruins the whole beer, though it has a cool concept.

Extreme pine aroma coupled with IPA bite. Very Shorts intense flavor. Caramel appearance with lacing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a clear golden with not much eggshell head, leaving some fine spotty lace behind. Nose involves big spruce, some underlying tart berry notes, and some dank herbal hops. Somewhat sweet, lightly tart, pretty bitter. Light to medium bodied, quite oily and slick, actively carbed, with a long spruce-tinged bitter finish. I liked this one a lot, but you definitely have to be able to handle all that piney, sprucy stuff. The berries round it out nicely, and I would take this type of holiday beer over those filled with nutmeg.

Mellow golden pour, very bubbly and clear with a half inch bright white head. Smells an awful lot like capín crunch with crunch berries: lager yeast, sweet sugary cereal grains, artificial berries, maybe cranberry. Average carbonation, quite viscous mouthfeel, clean finish. Very nice flavor of piney hops expertly mixed with almost creamy spruce, cranberry accentuates as well, definite juniper flavor, very juicy citrus/guava on finish. Great holiday rendition.
