Key Lime Pie is made with fresh limes, milk sugar, graham cracker, and marshmallow fluff. The prominent flavors are immensely sweet, then tart, with subtle hints of graham cracker coming through in the nose and remain on the back of the palate. Key Lime Pie is a Gold Medal Winner at the 2010 Great American Beer Festival.

Served on tap in a pint glass at Red Baron. Inside my pint glass is a hazy orange amber beer with just a few stray bubbles floating around the edge of the glass. The aroma is less intense than I would prefer, but it is spot on key lime pie. Graham cracker, lime, and cream are all present over a thin malt base. Getting a beer to taste like key lime pie is a brewing accomplishment, even with all of the adjuncts that Short’s used. The beer has a nice progression - first the flavor is sweet and tangy, representing the sweet side of the custard filling. Next the graham cracker crust comes in, bringing a malty, vanilla, and cinnamon sweetness with it. Finally the lime bursts through in a tart way, wrapping up the flavor with pizzazz. The carbonation is gentle and falls in between crisp and creamy. There are a lot of residual sugars in here that leave my mouth feeling sticky. The body drinks a little bit above the 5% ABV, although not by much. The creamy lactose and unfermented sugars definitely add to the viscosity of the ber. This is a fun beer from Short’s that is worth trying fresh on tap.

Sampled in a glass that was poured from a bottle, there were some chunks (about the size of a gnat or a touch larger) of white stuff on top of the beer in the bottle before I popped the cap, the specks were still there on top after pouring the beer into the glass, it does not look good at this point, after I swirled the beer around a bit, the chunks were bigger, probably marshmallow in the beer, this beer was a medium dark orange with a little gold in the glass, there was some haze, the pour made a less than half finger white cover that receded quickly to a tiny ring at the edge of the glass with a quarter size island of tiny bubbles in the center, hardly any lacing at all, some sweetness I believe to be the milk sugar, light malt, a bit of bread and graham cracker, a faint citrus fruit but it does not resemble lime, faint orange, the flavors were sugar, bread malt with graham cracker, and some lime like citrus fruit, there was some fruit sour-tartness, there was a small back and forth of sweet and citrus sour-tart in the drink, a light mouth feel, no creaminess to it, there was average carbonation, I tried many bottles over the years, none of them were that great, the flavor was closer to being a key lime pie than the nose, the nose did not resemble key lime, I do not know why I keep buying this beer every few years, I guess I hope it comes closer to being what it was intended to be, but it doesn’t, a disappointment of a drink.

Draft at MBG fest (also bottle) from notes. Pours a hazy copper color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have graham crackers, tart key lime, sweet creamy topping, pretty much what they were going for. Bottle was not up to the standards of the draft.

Notes from summer. Pours an orangish color. Aroma and taste are lime, grains, and some malts.

Poured a darker orange with a white head. Aroma was of caramel, lactose. Flavor simular, really sweet, light lime, caramel and lactos. Weird and not great.

Pour at the Great Taste of the Midwest. Light amber pour. Odd nose on this - malt with a hint of lime. Sweet beer, slight lime in the finish. Cool to try, but I could not drink much of this.

Key lime pie has a very good flavor. Tastes like a lime flavor initially with a subtle ending. Would drink again ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Uhhhhh... Well this is weird... But I guess what was I expecting when I ordered a key lime pie beer? That being said, I’ve never had a key lime pie before so I’m only basing this off chobani’s Greek yogurt that’s key lime pie with Graham crackers and white chocolate. Maybe dropping a Chuck of white chocolate in this beer would fix it... Hmm...

Wow... What a thing this is... Heavy and sweet and weird. It’s like... Off-putting. Slightly. Sort of like a recipe someone would make drunk....... Hmmm... If this were like 8% I’d be like ok maybe but it’s like 5 and it just seems wrong.

Pours a pale copper with a foamy white head that slowly fades to thin. Aroma is graham cracker and some key lime. Flavor is key lime with a subtle tartness, apple, vanilla, and some graham cracker. Finishes dry with a thin body. I didn’t care for this one, sadly. Such a great concept, but the flavors just don’t work.

Aroma is lime and malts, taste is like milk, light beer, and lime mixed, just doesn’t work for me
