COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Short’s Kind Ale a.k.a. Harvest Ale, is a seasonal beer made each fall to celebrate a successful growing season. True to tradition, we commemorate the earth’s agricultural environment by using freshly picked hops to “wet hop” this brew. Straight from the fields on Leelanau Peninsula, local hops impart a mellow earthiness to this ale that lead to moderate bitter tones and a subtle sweetness in the finish.

Kind Ale was first brewed as a single batch at our Elk Rapids production facility in September of 2009. The label art for Kind Ale is a picture of Tony Hansen holding up some of the first ever usable mature hops grown in Northern Michigan. The first year the beer was brewed, Joe Short and Tony Hansen visited hop fields on Old Mission Peninsula to watch the hops get picked, before loading them into their truck and personally driving them back to Elk Rapids to brew with that day.

Very nice and light. Great hoppy flavor and aroma without being overpowering. Extremely refreshing. More of a pale ale to than IPA to me.

Thanks to Northernbrews: Pours a bit hazed with a frothy thin halo of suds. Nose is fresh fruit with loads of pineapple and maraschino cherry & canned peach. Flavors are mostly the same with a perfect malty foundation underneath allowing the fruity flavors to fully rejoice. Clean and refine with a bit of an alcoholic aftertone. Not much to complain about.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear golden amber with a white head. Very crisp hoppy aroma, with citrus and spicy hops and touches of biscuit and honey underlying. Flavor is grapefruit hops primarily, with spicy and piney hop flavors backing them up. Nice and fresh flavors. Some tropical fruit hints seem to creep in a little later in the flavor and aroma. Not aggressive. In all, this is quite a tasty wet-hop IPA, much more to my taste than Huma-Lupa.

12oz bottle. Pours golden orange with head. Aromas of bright citrus and hops with some caramel malts. Flavor was fresh and hoppy with citrus and light pine. Perfect amount of hops to match malt bill. Cant believe the ratings on this one. Thought this was great.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled 9/25/2012. Pours slightly hazy golden amber color with a nice 1-2 finger fairly dense white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, mango, orange zest, peach, herbal, grass, pine, honey, caramel, floral, bread, and light earth. Very nice aromas with good strength and balance. Taste of big grapefruit, pine, mango, orange zest, herbal, floral, grass, honey, caramel, and bread. Good amount of spicy pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, mango, pine, herbal, grass, and earthy spiciness on the finish for a while. Nice balance of hop flavors with a fairly nice balance of malt sweetness. Some moderate cloying bitterness on the finish for a bit. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy, crisp, and very sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice wet hopped IPA. Big hop flavor with good balance; fairly smooth and crisp to drink. Definitely enjoyed this.

The more I drink this one the more I like it. Tropical citrus Upfront. Nice clean drinkable hop flavor. The hop flavor really hangs around after the sip and sits on the tongue. Nice stuff. Be good on a hot day.

Gold colored pour with a slight orange tint to it and and a small white head. Nice bright, zesty citrus aroma with a bit of caramel and honey sweetness. The flavor is a bit more muted than the aroma but still has a nice resiny fresh hop pine bitterness to it with a touch of citrus to brighten it up. The malt is similarly mild and adds some notes of toffee, caramel and biscuit. The piny bitterness really lingers on the sides of the tongue. The body is oily with a medium-thin mouth feel and lots of tingly carbonation.

Bottle thanks to Styles. Light copper color with a foamy/creamy white head. Aroma is strongly hoppy - almost earthy/herbal. Medium plus body with foamy carbonation. Flavor is very strong, almost minty, hop over somewhat harshly roasted caramel. Finishes like the hop was fruity. Really good stuff.
