COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kolsch 45 is just what you need on a hot summer day. Kölsch beer originated in Cologne, Germany and is unique in that it is a warm fermented ale, but is aged like most traditional German lagers at a cool temperature. Though light in body and color, its prominent hoppiness and radiant yellow “straw” color sets it apart. As you taste Kolsch 45, you’ll notice that the head retains prominent, pleasant aromas. Light Pilsen and Munich malt aid in the crisp, refreshing nature of this beer. Hop bitterness is present without adding a lingering resonance.

Bottle. Corn syrup and barley malt aroma. Golden yellow with nice head. Sweet light syrup, lemon, and barley malt flavor. Okay but not a fan of the corn syrup aroma and flavor.

Bottle: Lightly hazed, light yellow-gold with a foamy white head. Lemon/honey...grain malt aroma. Taste is sweet...overly so.......sweet grain malt. A bit too.....well,.....sweet, for lack of a better word.... Ok, but it’s clingy.

Bottle (12 oz). Courtesy of czar, thanks! Hazy golden/orange with a small white head and little lacing. Aroma is of grains, light banana notes, biscuity malt and grassy presence. Taste is of grains, grass, moderate frutiness, light banana and malt. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Light nail polish finish. Subpar Kölsch. Average/good drinkability, but not really tasty. The finish doesn’t help.

Nephilium (1344) - Ohio, USA - JUL 12, 2014
A light lager aroma starts this beer off, it pours a hazy light amber, with a thin white head. The light fruitiness that you expect from a kolsch is there, as well as a lot more hops then are usual in the style. Light bodied, with a lingering fruity and bitter finish. Not quite to style, but a good solid beer.

Pours hazy bright yellow, very slight thin head, nice lacing. Aroma sweet malt, banana, slight noble hop. Taste pilsner malt sweetness, nice sharp banana, spicy noble hop, all balanced very well. Mouthfeel thinish body, higher carbonation, slight tart and peppery spice, balanced finish on the dry side. Overall dead nuts for the style, one ofthe best examples of kolsch I?ve had, very tasty and balanced, not everyone?s favorite style.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 3/21/2014. Pours slightly hazy bright gold color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, straw, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of pale malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, straw, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, straw, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and robustness of pale malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester flavors; with a very clean malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Kolsch style. All around good robustness and balance of pale malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

I liked this kolsch. Straw yellow pour off white head. Some spiciness malt aroma. Nice hop profile some spiciness, some hay and maltiness. Light body moderate carbonation. Enjoyable.

Bottle: Straw-yellow body, cloudy & translucent with a wispy white head that fizzles away quickly into a thin collar; small, spotty lacing. Aroma is mellow but pleasant; graininess, yeast, sweetbread, musty & floral hops, almost spicy like Saaz but with undertones of citrus pith & lemon zest as well. Clean yeast flavor, tastes similar to lager yeast (even though it uses ale yeast, I think?) with a crisp body. Mild grains, light sweetbread malt, citrus spritz, white grape skins, & a kiss of floral, musky hops in the finish. Though not my favorite kolsch, it’s very drinkable & pretty good overall.
