Pub Brew. Lakeview Lager is a light bodied golden lager with an impressive hop aroma of bold citrus and subtle pine. Pleasant floral hop flavors are followed by smokey cedar qualities, lending traces of sweet vanilla. A sufficient bitterness in the finish provides a cleansing balance between the resiny hops and cedar wood aging.

Pour on tap, clear golden pour with white head, aroma brought notes of bread, biscuit, some grassy and herbal notes with a spicy hop presence as well, some slight honey in there. Taste was a mix of grass, honey, bread into a bit of yeast, slight dough, bready notes with some herbal, floral hops, finishing bitter.

Sampled at EBF. Pours a clear gold with some white head. Nose is nice and hoppy, light wood, malt. Flavor is malt, toasted wood, citrus. Medium bodied, dry finish. Sort of an old style IPA.

On tap at Crunchy’s and Beggar’s Banquet. Most people seem to be getting a strong wood flavor from this. I am getting almost all citrus. It smelled and tasted liked a ruby red grapefruit; juice, flesh, pith, rind, everything. Extremely refreshing while maintaining enough of a bitter bite to keep it out of the too-sweet-should-be-called-a-wine-cooler category. I’m hoping they bottle this one day.

Draft at Hopcat. Pours a clear golden yellow color with a small amount of head that lingered a bit. Huge cedar wood aroma and not much else. Taste is cedar wood mixed with some grassy and spicy hops. Very interesting. Definitely lots of flavor packed in here. I think this would be a great beer to have with a cigar. But I also think it would be better with a higher abv and more body. Still very enjoyable.

Gold pour at GABF. Neat beer. The hops blend really well with the cedar. A nice lightly toasted malt backbone really puts this into nice balance.

Draft sampled at GABF with Andrew and Moreau. Pours a lightly hazed golden yellow body with thin white lacing. Aroma is cedar, hop and light spice. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of cedar, light fresh hop and some spices. I really liked this, reminded me of the Cigar City Humidor conditioning.

Draft at Shorts. Hazy light-medium orange body, medium-thick cream head. Spicy, woody nose, also marijuana. Bitter, tannic cedar body, dusty, bitter, pungent wood and juicy, smoky marijuana. Huge astringent finish. Intense and cloying.

Super intense spanish cedar nose. Taste is similar, light dry spicy cedar, touch of pepper, light grapefruit. Interesting, but not terribly drinkable.

This is an awesome cousin to the hard-to-find Short’s Spruce Pilsner! Very dry and very woody and yet light and refreshing...the hop aroma’s pair well the the cedar. I am hoping that they are looking to find another woody lager/plis to go with the fantastic Spruce Pils and add this one to the line-up, because I want to have this again! Note to Short’s: Abies concolor (White fir) has a wonderful spicy orange aroma to the needles and wood...need I say more?
