Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Amber brew with one finger of pale head, good head retention and lacing. Nice aroma of grapefruit, citrus, pine, orange. Taste is a fine complex medley of malt, citrus hops, grapefruit, orange and bitter, with lingering clean bitter and citrus flavor. I don’t detect lemon per se, but it no doubt contributes to the overal citrus profile. I find Shorts brews to have a really nice palate - not thick but attaining a creaminess through soft carbonation. Very fin DIPA.

12oz bottle from Meadows. Pours clear dark golden orange with small white head. Aromas of pine, grapefruit, orange, and fresh hops. Flavors of bitter hops, sweet malts, little bit of the orange and lemon zest sneaks through, but the bitterness of hops dominate this one. There is enough malt to keep this one balance. More hop bitterness than hop flavor but it works. Solid.

Bottle shared by mtjoseph. Clear and copper in color. By the time I got out of the shower there was only a ring of foam around the neck of the beer left. Loads of citrus in the aroma. Plenty of orange, caramel, but really no noticeable lemon. Lemon shows up a little bit in the taste. It is more prevalent than the orange in the taste. Pretty good.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2012 A: Amber bronze body with quite a bite of cloudyness. Massive, frothy egg-shell colored head. Solid retention with thick, creamy lacing. S: Bright lemon, orange and grapefruit citrus notes coming flying out of the gate. Some floral and pine as well. A slight undercurrent of sweet caramel malt. T: Dies down a bit compared to the nose. The citrus notes are not as bright and clean, but are still pleasant on the tongue. Nice and bitter. The malt also amps up a little more than the nose would suggest. Fairly balanced for a double IPA with such a massive nose. My guess is the lemon and orange zest used in the brew contributed much more in the nose than in the flavor profile. M: Medium bodied with lively, but appropriate carbonation. Toward the back end the feel kind of dies down and is a bit light before a strong bitterness strikes and lingers past each sip. O: All said, a very solid dIPA. Not quite the top tier, but a very respectable effort that I would certainly revisit and would love to check out on tap.

pours a nice dark gold color, but with little head to it. Good aromas of citrus’, hops, caramel, and oranges. Medium/full bodied with some roast coffee on the finish too, which is a little odd. Good, but a pretty straightforward Double IPA that isn’t all that amped up but pleasing

Light hazy orange pour with a pillowy white head. First Short’s brew I have had with ’normal’ carbonation levels. Nice aroma packed full of citrus and sweet malts. Orange, peaches. Flavors were also citrus heavy with a big grapefruit juice like bitter finish. Big time bitter. Mouthfeel was nice, slick, medium bodied. Interesting and good.

Bottle from a six pack purchased at some shop in Detroit. Clear orange/amber pour with a thin off-white head. Sweet malt nose with a bit of graininess telling me this is a bit old, but there are some orange and piney hops in there too, leading to a pretty nice aroma. Orange and pine flavor with sweet malt before a bitter grapefruit finish.
