Pub Brew. ‘Merican Wheat is brewed with a malt bill comprised of 50% Michigan grown malted wheat. This light bodied ale exhibits a pale yellow color with a slight haze commonly found in this beer style. Doughy yeast aromas complement the distinguishable grain flavors, reminiscent of those found in cereals. The finish is dry with a lingering doughy flavor.

12 ounce bottle into weizen glass, bottled on 10/8/2013. Pours very hazy golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense white head with decent retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Minimal lacing clings glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big pear, apple, lemon zest, banana, clove, wheat, bread, bubblegum, pepper, honey, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity and balance of malt and fruity/spicy yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of pear, apple, lemon zest, banana, clove, wheat, bread, honey, bubblegum, pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of light fruits, lemon, banana, clove, bubblegum, wheat, honey, bread, pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice balance and complexity of malt and fruity/spicy yeast flavors; with solid robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy, slick, and lightly crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice hefeweizen style. All around good balance and complexity of malt and yeast flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Draft (note -- on tap at Churchkey at same time as Nicie Spicie, not the same beer). Lightly hazed apple juice body with white head. Aroma is medium sweet, cereal, some wheat. Taste is medium sweet, cereal, some wheat. Light-medium body, light creaminess. Really bland, my least favorite (by far) of the Short’s I tried.
