MMMKay is an India Pale Lager, originally brewed from the second runnings of Aww Jeah. Now, built of its own accord, the nose is a dynamic explosion of hop aromas! The initial fragrances are of bold citrus fruit: guava, orange, and lemon. As the head settles, the aromas shift to fresh evergreen accents. Indicated by the light body and pale yellow appearance, malt was an afterthought, and the focus here would be hops. An array of enjoyable American hop flavors shock the palate ranging from slightly fruity to intense earthy pine. A bold bitterness dominates the finish enhanced by the clean unobtrusive nature of its lager origin.

Aroma is great, lots of sweet grapefruit, super malty, I believe it will be a treat. Appearance is what you’d expect of a pale lager, we’ll call it darker yellow/light amber, nice white head. Taste is pretty bitter, lots of hops coming through, piny, not so fruity, but then comes a weird lightness that I assume is lager-esque. It’s unlike anything I’ve tried, and probably a perfect blend of the two. Mouthfeel is a touch thin, but not as carbonated as expected, and the bitterness from the hops is really hanging around. Overall...it had promise in the aroma, but fell flat on the taste in that realm. However, it’s not a knock necessarily, it’s just not what I expected.

Bottle:   Pale golden, a bit bright, faint haze, small sudsy white head, little lacing.   Somewhat of a dusty and earthy hop nose.   Bit of a resiny and pithy start.   Doesn’t really come across as a Lager at all, but pretty much a Pale Ale.   Strong pith lingers after each sip.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Does seem a bit smooth, smoother than most Pale Ales at least, so there is that.   Resin and pithy notes linger.   Just seems like a smooth bodied yet somewhat abrasive but not overly hopped Pale Ale.   Eh... thanks Kevin!

Bottle. Pours slightly cloudy gold, with a white head. Aroma is citrusy hops, some pine, and sugar. Flavor is hops and malt. Refreshing brew.

12oz bottle poured into oxbow snifter. Pale orange with a small white head that is gone before you put the bottle down. Smell is juicy hops, slight cracker, and grain. Taste is more along the lines of an APA rather than a lager. Juicy fruity hops, solid grainy malt backbone, and just the right amount of bitterness. Short’s rules! mmmkay?

UPDATED: OCT 16, 2013 Bottle: hazy goldenrod with a creamy eggshell head that survives as a swampy film for a while; spotty, wet lacing. Aroma is bursting with citric hops. Mild grapefruit, light tropical notes, tons of orange, and a bit of lemon peel. Slightly peppery & piney hops. Taste is decidedly hoppy and nicely bitter. Lots of citrus notes, orange and grapefruit peel & pith all over, borderline herbaceous pines and leaves. Dry, bitter finish with the lightest touch of cracker malt. Very nice beer, but you’d never know it was a lager. Makes for a damn good & bitter "session IPA", though.

A solid beer by what Shorts does best. A really good lemon and other citrus flavors are packed in this hoppy lager. Can definitely drink these beers in multiples.

Another brew thanks to Another6Pack. Thanks again Trent! It has pale in the name but it’s quite good looking. Maybe an 18K gold with a 1" head of foam and loaded with lacing. LOL! Okay, who dropped a pine cone into my glass, swished it around, and removed it before I could catch ’em? THE piniest beer I think I’ve ever smelled and it’s not even an IPA. Pine Pine, pine away! 5%abv with so much flavour of pine, and it’s a Lager! Tree-mendous. Medium bodied, medium carbo, nice mouthfeel. Okay, this surprised me big time and I’m digging it big time. What a treat! And there’s even a bit of a malty touch way in the background.

Had on-tap at the price of $6 for a 24oz pour at BoatWorks in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. MMMKAY is a light amber color. A slight, somewhat creamy head. Mostly good lacing, though it tapers off about halfway through the glass. It smells and tastes of hops... really tastes like a light IPA or something, which isn’t a bad thing. There’s a significant hop bitterness throughout each sip, so this is a good choice for the hop heads, for sure. The hops in this are really grassy, with a sort of citrus flavor as well. MMMKAY is a super solid beer, but it’s nothing that blows me away, as there’s nothing about this beer that stands out and puts it above anything else. Another tasty brew from Short’s.

Draft in pint glass. Initial hit on the palate says "IPA" and finish says "lager." Hoppy on front side and smooth on the finish. Very good.
