12 zoz bottle from Honkeybra. Thanks. Pours an opaque black color with a small tan head that soon recedes to a fine ring. The aroma is moderate in strength with sweet roasted grains, mocha and burnt toast. The flavor is more burnt roasted flavors, plus licorice, molasses, coffee and biter walnuts. The palate is full, thick and a little syrupy with prickly carbonation. The finish is long, dry and biter. Overall: A nice tasty little stout.

A-the liquid is one shade off of pitch black with a darker kahki colored head that is thick and creamy with some bubbles on top. The retention is decent lingering for a little less than a half a minute with a big thick lacing left behind completely covering the glass. S-the nose is about average in strength. Roasted malts come to the nose first, faint notes of unrefined dark chocolate with just a touch of coffee in the middle. Sweet toffee and caramel fade in heavier on the toffee with an appearance of dark fruits in the very back, raisin with just a touch of plum T-the taste is quite huge as roasted malts are big right up front. A little bit of dark chocolate with a ton of roasted coffee that lingers from the middle throughout the rest of the taste. Some toffee underneath with molasses setting in as well. A light dark fruit sweetness at the very back, faint raisins and maybe some plum, but very light sweetness. There is also some hop bitterness to this at the finish but the roasted malts really dominate. The alcohol is noticeable at the finish with a fair bit of warming M-this is huge, full bodied and extremely smooth. This is quite creamy on the palate with a good bit of carbonation giving it a solid finish. This is also has a very dry finish. D-this beer and huge and tasty. Extremely good and I wish I had some for the cellar. Big time roasted malts with a nice balance of sweetness being light. Some hop bitterness to balance and the oatmeal really gives it a creamy palate.

12 oz bottle courtesy of deyholla. Thanks, Derek! Another special Shorts bottle. Pours a pitchblack opaque pour, dark and ominous, decent thickness, moderate light brown head that dies to a film, thicker edges, laces ok, a bit spotty in the center. Aromas are sweeter, oatmeal and chocolate slanted, a touch of anise/black licorice, caramel, light coffee bitterness and roasted malts, lactose sweetness, faint bitterness, a touch of dark fruit works in wih the anise, fuller and very tempting on the nose, sweeter for sure though. Initial is thicker side of medium, full on the palate with pretty prominent roasty malts and coffee, dark chocolate and caramel, oatmeal sweetness, lactose is a bit there, but falls out, considerably roasty with black licorice on the palate. Sweetness and lactose gains ground towards the backend and finish with sweeter chocolate, lactose, and caramel, touch of espresso, decent bitterness. The anise sticks around, dark fruit maybe very faint, light bitterness but pretty solid roast character, much more than the nose would have implied. A pretty good roast and ash comes into the backend over time. Nice stout, some good complexity and surprising balance between sweetness and roasty bitterness. I really liked this, but don’t really feel it’s an Imperial. More a stronger sweet stout and I rated it as so. Tasty

12oz bottle. Dark brown pour with a medium tan head. Malty nose with notes of chocolate, caramel and what I can only describe is subtle raspberry. Flavor is chocolate with a bit of alcohol and a roasty finish.

Pours a dark mahogany color with some tan at the edges and topped by a small tan colored head of foam that leaves spots of lace behind. The aroma shows hints of dark, bitter sweet chocolate, roasted malts, dark fruit, and some burnt caramel. The flavor follows suit with the roasted malts up front followed by the dark chocolate, burnt caramel, and some earthy hop bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied and smooth, but a touch thin for an imperial stout. Pretty straight forward brew, but tasty enough.

12 oz. bottle from shawnm213- thanks again, Shawn! Pours a very dark brown, opaque and almost black, with a small tan head. It looks kind of like the last Shorts beer I had, Cuppa Joe, which had an out of control head, so I was unnecessarily cautious pouring this one because the carbonation is so quiet. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, toast, oats, brown sugar, caramel, and raisins. Flavor follows suit pretty closely, with notes of roasted malts, chocolate, molasses, raisins, oats, dust, earthy hops, toast, and earth. A strong underlying metallic note keeps it from being better. Medium-full bodied, with a good amount of carbonation and a roasty mouthfeel. The roast sticks around in the finish. A hint of spice. I’m surprised to see this called an imperial stout and not just a stout or sweet stout; it might be weak for the style but it doesn’t really fit the style. It’s a good beer nonetheless.
