2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 fattybladdy (193) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - APR 10, 2013
Bottle...probably pretty old. Pours a clear golden, pretty dismal light lager appearance. Aroma is citrus, corn. Taste is very light, citrus hops and lemon, wheat, spice.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Alextricity (177) - Chesterfield Twp., Michigan, USA - MAR 20, 2013
Appearance: Pours a deep, clear yellow color with a short-lived head, and no lacing. Really a pretty sad looking brew. It looks like stagnant urine.
Smell: Faint on the aroma after the head bubbles away. Some spice is certainly there, as is some hops and malt. Nothing overpowering though.
Taste/Feel: Very, very interesting. There’s a whole lot of everything going on. My first thought was that it tasted a lot like tea... like an Earl Grey or something. Then the zest comes in so you get some citrus in the background, but on the finish you get a slight burn on your tongue from the peppercorns. Very bizarre but also enjoyable. The carbonation is medium, despite seeing very little bubbling in the glass. The feel is pretty light.
This is one strange yet tasty beer by Short’s. I should also note this is the first Short’s I’ve ever had. It essentially tastes like a tea with pepper in it to me, which isn’t a bad thing. It’s just very unusual. I’m not sure I’d drink this too often... I see it as more of a novelty. I’d still get it again in the future just because it’s so strangely compelling.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 bpar73 (162) - Bellaire, Michigan, USA - NOV 29, 2012
UPDATED: NOV 30, 2012 Amber pour with spice, lemon and orange rind, coriander, and black peppercorns in the flavor and aroma. Peppercorn comes on a bit strong, overpowering the others, but still a pretty good beer.
2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20 arrogantb (1398) - Denver, Colorado, USA - NOV 10, 2012
Picked this up in a mixed sixer from Mondo Vino along with other Short’s brews. Golden yellow color, looks just fine. Smell is really heavy spices to the point where I don’t want to drink it. Perfume-like almost, just obnoxious. The flavor is like drinking potpurri and shampoo, just way too heavy on the spices. If I had bought a sixer of this I would have returned it.

Sampled at the end of GABF 2012 with Andrew and Moreau. I remember being able to notice the peppercorns in this one. Also noted flavors of biscuity malts, citrus and spice. Nice.

I like it, spicy and citrusy. Exactly what I was expecting. Lemon leads to peppercorn spice. Refreshing.

0.355 l bottle at Cafe Langebro, Copenhagen. Golden. Pungent spicy aroma wihth pepper, ginger and lemon. Dry spicy flavor with black pepper, ginger and tart lemon. Aroma is not bad but flavorwise this combination does not work.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Steasy66 (540) - Minnesota, USA - SEP 13, 2012
Orangish color with small white head. Nice citrus and coriander aromas. Clean hefe flavor with this weird oily citrus body. This beer is OK but really not my thing.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Huhzubendah (1979) - Washington DC, USA - SEP 12, 2012
On draft at Churchkey in D.C.
The beer is yellowish with a thin head that leaves sparse lacing.
The aroma brings a bouquet of spices and floral hops.
The flavor is quite complex, with notes of herbs, tea, flowers, citrus, and more, though these attributes are dominated by peppercorns. There is a decent amount of sweetness, and I can see that a small serving will be more than enough.
The finish is dry, with lingering floral and citrus notes.
This beer is an oddity for sure, but I kinda like it (in small doses). I’d try it again.

Spice smell, not too strong. Appearance is bland. Weak taste, starts in the front of the tongue, but goes away quickly. Tastes like a wit with a bit of pepper flavoring, but doesn’t add to the flavor.
