I was looking forward to this one. I actually thought the freezing would bring out the malt a little more. It had the opposite effect. The malt was nowhere to be found. Bitter and stringent. Slightly tropical with some citrus. But wow, this was kind of unbalanced. Nice effort here, but leave this batch as is next time.

GABF 2008. Pours clear light orange with a spare, fizzy, white head, mostly diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, grain, straw), heavy hops (flowers, perfume, grass, pine), average yeast (sweat) with notes of apples. Medium bodied, sticky texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity, and heavy bitterness.

Sampled at ’08 BSAF. Beer is cloudy, medium-hued oxidized gold. Head is large, off-white, foamy/rocky, beige, slowly diminishing but mostly lasting. Flecky lazy apple spot-like trails of lacing.
The aroma is malty with a light note of biscuit; Hoppy with moderately/heavy notes of resin/pine, moderate notes of grapefruit oil, light notes of alfalfa/grass; Yeasty with a light sweaty, rubbery note; Miscellaneous note of green apple.
The flavor is heavily/moderately bitter, moderately sweet with a lightly acidic, moderately/heavily bitter, grippy finish.
The body is medium, the texture is watery/syrupy and the carbonation is lighter than average.

On tap @ Boulder Strong Ale Fest poured a cloudy gold with a lasting white head. Aromas of grapefruit, orange, light carmel, light pine and a hint of spice. Palate was light to medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, grapefruit rind, light pine, light earthiness and a hint of spice with a crisp lingering bitter finish.

sample at MBGWF....notes are shit on this one but at least i have the numbers down....poured an opaque orange brown with little to no head....big hoppy nose of grapefruit, rye and sugar accents...taste was pretty bitter overall. i’m not sure that freezing it and removing the ice did much good for this one.
