Pub-only. Smoked Apple has faint aromas that don’t become more prevalent until the beer warms up a bit. When it does warm up, the fragrance is mildly sweet with a subtle smokiness. The initial mouthfeel is lively and literally tingles as it coats the palate. Initially, big smokey flavors overwhelm the sweetness of the malt and apples, but eventually balance is achieved, forming a more unified transition from smokey to sweet. Equal parts smoke and sweetness linger well into the finish.

12oz bottle, thanks to FlandersNed. Shared with b3shine. Bottled 3/4/10. Hazy golden orange color. Minimal off-white head. Loose lace. Smoke, apple in the nose.. Vinegar? Taste is kind of tart, moderate sweet, not much smoke in the flavor. Very soft, dry texture. Nothing for the flavor to hold on to, here. Some light hint of oxidization. Very thin. OK stuff. Just not much here. Tart taste works well with the apple flavor, light smoke that can be detected is nice... I’d just like more of everything - body, and flavor.

Bottle to snifter (3/4/10; shared by DrSilverworm). Looks solid; a transparent dark apple juice with thin white lacing. Smells of aged apple juice and smoke. Tastes like it smells, but less balanced. Average (at best) on the palate. Eh.

Bottle. Light smoke and apple aroma. Hazy light amber with a huge fizzy, quickly dissipating head. Smoky apple flavor. Light dry body, very highly carbonated... way too carbonated. Would have been more enjoyable with softer carbonation.

Hazy amber beer. Frothy white head. Smoky nose. Light crisp palate. Smoke and somewhat tart apple. Very dry finish. That’s about that! Was hoping for something more sophisticated. A rare disappointment from Shorts.

Bottle. Clear golden body with a huge, fizzy head. Aroma of sweet apple, peat, smoke, plastic. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet, lightly bitter and moderately tart. Thin to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. The beer tasted of chemicals, but it was just the combination of tart apple cider and smoke that gave it the astringency.

On tap at the Brickhouse BBQ Beer Spot Great Taste pre-party. Caramel apple with next to no head. Aroma of smoke wood, smoked malt and faint apple. Taste of smoked wood with a brief note of apple in the middle then washed out by smoky pale malt. Shorts is hit or miss and this one missed.

On tap at Brickhouse BBQ - Pours apple juice amber with no head. Smells of lightly smoked malt with real faint apples and a bit of cider sweetness. Taste is apple juice, but watery and not pungent at all, with pretty full smoke on the finish. Feels smooth and watery with very nice carbonation. This one doesn’t work very well, but like all Short’s beers, it’s interesting.

Pours pale golden with a light white head. Aroma is all smoke with a hint of apple. Flavor is much the same. All smoke with a hint of apple coming through in the end. Was not a fan of this beer.

Orangey Amber color with slight pink hue. Aroma of Banana and apple. Flavor begins as a nice sweet apple then a fake, undissolved hickory bbq smoke. The palate starts sweet, this is a good apple beer at firs,t then it becomes a sad almost depressing smoky beer that doesn’t work on something so pale. Bottle from a trade with StFun.

Traded 12oz bottle. Poured gently to not awake the sediment beast at the bottom. Pretty serious carbonation drives a huge, bubbly off-white head that looks like you poured apple juice from about 2 feet above the glass. Clear, gold color. Aroma is pretty much mentholy smoke with a hint of apple sweetness behind it. Again in the flavor it’s mostly the smoke with a hint of the apples. Maybe a little thin and disjointed (like the big, bad smoke and the gentle apples are fighting). Fine and cool for trying something different.
