India Spruce is an Imperial Pilsner, fermented with local, hand-picked blue spruce tips. The spruce presence, rooted in historical brewing practices, is enormous and gives the beer a refreshing gin quality. This beer is impressively light bodied, considering the immense spruce flavors and the prodigious additions of hops.

Yellow color. Moderate head. The spruce works well enough with the aroma but becomes a total train wreck in the taste. Maybe it’s like having someone with no palate for sours rating a a lambic but this beer just did not go down well.

Pours a pale yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is mainly pine. Flavor is a very potent pine. I imagine you can get this flavor from stuffing your face with pine needles. The pine character is very surprising given that it’s so much stronger than the aroma. This is a bold beer, and while I find it interesting, I’m still not sure how much I actually enjoyed it.

Pour on tap, clear golden pour with white head, aroma brought notes of big mint, spruce, pine needle into some slight bread, hints of orange as well into a bit of spice. Taste was a mix of slight biscuit, some earth into big mint, pine, some slight fruity notes with a hint of orange, finishing minty, herbal, bitter.

GABF 2014. Tons of pine aroma and flavor. Gold color, dry overall as a pilsner should be. if you like pine/spruce aromas, you would probably enjoy this beer.

i didnt think i was going to care for this, thought it would be too hoppy. luckily the spruce distracts enough to make it tolerable.

Boring yellow pour, hardly retains head/lace. Smells like walking into a wood store. So much spruce, extremely bitter finish, harsh, not my thing at all. Took a 3oz pour and I handed off half of it.

12 oz bottle. Misty orange with white frosting. Nose is dough, citrus, toffee and spruce. Thick and creamy with a sharp buzz. Taste is syrupy cane sugar, watermelon, mint and grass with a growing blast of spruce. Makes me think of an herbal cough drop. For a style i don’t like, Short’s pulls it off.

Smells and tastes dank. Very very dank. Like you’re drinking someone’s back yard or garden.

Clear gold with a white head. Dank! Smells and tastes of weed. Maybe some citrusy flavors hiding but wow...it tastes like weed.

Bottle: Murky, just pale of true gold with yellow edges; super soapy & foamy white head on top that leaves dripping wet lacing in its wake. Copious amounts of spruce in the aroma; nothing but pine & spruce tips. Dank, resinous pine needles. Perhaps a touch of biscuit malt sweetness in the very back-end? Then again, maybe not. Bludgeoning bitter spruce & pine ripping the moisture from your mouth with each sip. Liquid Christmas tree. Reminds me of tame gin, only more resinous & complete with enamel shredding bitterness. Solventy note evolves with warmth & it gets harder to drink. I understand why some people might enjoy this, but I’m not a fan of gin, spruce, or harshness to this degree. Not my speed.

Rated on 2-19-2011 (Bottle) This beer has a small white head that does not last very long, yellow body with fizzy, fast rising carbonation, and one ring of lacing. The aroma is pine, spruce and earthy. The taste is bitter and a lot of spruce. The mouth feel is lively and this beer is medium bodied. Overall, this beer is too over-the-top spruce tasting for my liking. So much so, I barely was able to finish my pour of this beer. Next!
