4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
GABF 2010 - yes, I’m a little behind on the tick uploads. Pours a clear golden color with a one-finger white head. The aroma is big-time spruce needles, really interesting and unique. Earthy and a little sappy (in a good way!). The flavor just does not quit. I absolutely love that spruce and hope to see it in more beers. Behind that is a great pilsner malt base along with pine. Nice mouthfeel, medium-light bodied and rather crisp. A successful experiment from Short’s, which I’ve found to be a high variance brewery. This time they were spot-on.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a slightly cloudy pale orange color with very little head. Big aroma of spruce along with citrus, pine, and other trees/flowers. Smells like a diverse forest and I love it. Taste is very bitter but it is mellowed a bit by the huge fresh hoppy and spruce flavor. Very oily texture and light body. Very thin and crisp which makes it surprisingly drinkable given the bitterness. The finish is long and the spruce flavor remains on the tongue a very long time. It would be a good idea drink this beer last because every beer after will probably taste like spruce. I just love this beer.

Pours a hazy murky golden hue with almost no head. Smells of a Christmas tree, reminds me of my youth when we use to pick REAL Christmas trees. Taste has a strong pine and bitter hop taste. Has a medium to light mouth feel with a soft finish but however has a strong bitter aftertaste if that makes any sense. This is a very enjoyable beer. I would like to thank Ryan for giving menthe bottle, you are the man!

12oz pour from bottle. Dark gold body with smaller, white frothy head. Loads of pine, resinous, a little grapefruit, and faint cereal malt in the nose. Big, wonderful flavors here. Still tons of pine and a little sweet citrus initially. Taste evolves seamlessly into a long, refreshingly bitter, slightly boozy finish. Mouthfeel is lightly oily. I’m not huge of beers with spruce tips, but is done perfectly.

Interesting flavor from the blue spruce. Blends well with the hop aroma, but gets a bit overwhelming toward the end of the pint.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft sample. Poured clear amber color with an average frothy white head that was lasting and produced good lacing. Moderate to heavy resin spruce hop aroma. Medium body with a smooth slick texture with soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy spruce bitter flavor with with a moderate to heavy bitter finish of moderate to long duration. This a standout beer.

Bottle from ICEatALAMO. Poured a clear golden color with a fluffy white head. Gorgeous aroma full of pine trees and spruce. This was in front of a light bready malt profile and some earthiness. Flavors were big time spruce and pine tree as well. Finished with a decent, lingering hoppy bitterness. Mouthfeel was medium to rather light with good carbonation. This is truly a one of a kind brew. Novelty yes, but extremely drinkable at the same time. Fun beer.

Pours a clear, then very cloudy gold after I stirred up all the stuff at the bottom. Fairly buoyant creamy eggshell head with little white crumbs of goodness throughout the body. Nose of a lot of lemon citrus and pine forest: giant huge pine forest. Taste is pretty sweet and slightly tart but hugely bitter. Toward fuller bodied, creamy, slick and oily, invigorating, with a prominent bitter finish. A beer that smacks you across the face and then puts its arm around you. Good.

Draft at soup spoon. A gin and tonic in beer form. Piney and big citrus hops. Smooth body and a sticky palate. Really good.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: The aroma consists of heavy pine and a pretty good dose of citrus hops as well...very IPA-like aroma. It pours a slightly hazy golden-orange with a small soapy white head. The flavor starts with a quick dose of sweet citrus and a touch of pilsner malt. The finish has lots of pine and a slightly lesser amount of citrus hops. I get some moderate grassiness in the aftertaste. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. If handed this blindly and asked what style, I’d certainly guess IPA. Regardless of style, it’s tasty.
