COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Humble comfort in every sip
Chocolate Wheat is a Porter brewed with chocolate malt, wheat malt, and well-chosen specialty grains. The combination creates a deep black, full-bodied beer that provides subtle hop flavors and rich malt tones. Chocolate Wheat balances the flavors of roasted caramel, coffee, and chocolate, which ends in a smooth finish.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub, surprisingly great porter. Nugget and fuggles hops. Chocolate malt apparent. Black with crowning brown head

Sampled draft at HopCat (Grand Rapids, MI). Pours a black pour, ruby edges, near opaque, with decent brown head that laces well. Aromas are creamy chocolate, a touch wheat, but slight bitterness and cocoa take over. Initial is creamy, a touch bitter or wheaty on the backend, but initial is creamy chocolate and a touch bitter, faint peanut butter or peanut? Very interesting, full for a wheat body. Still, flavorful and interesting. Very nice brew! Cheers!

On tap at Hopcat in Grand Rapids. Menu called this a porter and it looks a little like a porter. Very drinkable.

On tap at Hopcat. Pours a deep brown with a small creamy tan head. Aroma is very heavy milk chocolate with a hint of cherry jam fruitiness. Flavor starts sweet and sugary with more milk chocolate but gains a dark fruitiness that gives a nice sharpness to balance the soft wheat character. Finishes with a real cocoa powder like bitterness that rides through the aftertaste with some earthy hops. Medium bodied and a soft carbonation. A nice dessert beer, not overly complex or full bodied and easy drinking.

Growler shared by Rogueone. Dark brown color with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasty malt, chocolate and yeast. Chocolate flavor up front with some sweet malt and a roasty finish.

Thanks to Rogueone for sharing a growler. This beer pours a dark brown color with a medium and foamy tan head that diminishes slowly. Stringy lacing on the glass. Chocolate and roasted malt in the nose along with some wheat. Medium, smooth body with flavors of chocolate, grainy malt and toasted wheat. The finish is chocolatey and smooth with a roasted malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Draft at Shorts. Pours dark brown with deep red highlights and a medium sized creamy beige head. The aroma had mild chocolate, roasted malt, wheat grass, and very mild sweetness. The flavor is more chocolate than the nose indicated, roasted malt, moderate sweetness, grassy hops, light coffee. The body is a bit thin for a stout, but this is very drinkable. In fact, this would qualify as a session beer if it were readily available.

Growler courtesy of johnd513 poured into a snifter. Pours dark brown with a big tan head that recedes to a cap and leaves some impressive lacing. The nose is fairly subdued but is dominated by the chocolate malts. There are hints of the wheat sweetness and hops but the chocolate malts are dominant in the aroma. The taste is sweet as well with chocolate but has a more toasted character than the aroma suggests. There are hints of coffee bitterness is the taste along with a little hops in the finish. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied for the style with lots of carbonation. This is an extremely drinkable stout and one with a lot of interesting flavors coming together. All in all, another unique brew from Shorts and, in this case, very sessionable.

Not a stout but enjoyable. Roasted and salty. Would go well with some peanuts. Rather thin but makes it very drinkable.
