The Curl was one of the first Imperial beers made at Short’s. This American Pilsner has an appealing clear, bright, and golden straw color. Faint esters of grain and aromas of fresh baked bread are prominent throughout the beer. The flavor results from the abundance of flake maize used in this recipe. There are also hefty doses of hops that create a pronounced dryness that seamlessly blends into a crisp, clean finish.

Bottle conditioned - pour slowly to prevent the cloudiness. Clear medium gold color, lively carbonation and thick head of fluffy white foam. Clumpy lacing. Mild malt and a little grassy hop character in the aroma. First sip was much more hops than anticipated - masking the malt. Subsequent sips still have a citrus and flowery pungency with a mellow pilsner malt character well behind. Smooth body with long citrusy and ever so slightly spicy hop aftertaste. Bottle #714 of 1000 purchased Aug ’07 in Rochester Hills.

Poured from 12oz bottle. Really really good imperial lager. Crisp, clean, and easy drinking. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Slightly hazy light gold in color with a medium white head. I don’t get much for aroma, just slight floral, yeast, and bread notes. Thin body and medium carbonation. A funky sweet, bready taste up front balanced by a crisp bit of citrus and short-lived bitterness. Interesting and enjoyable.

Tasted and smelled vastly different when first opened, had an almost Belgianesque yeasty feel to it. I let it sit for a while and it really opened up, or the bad stuff dissipated. Big sweet light sugary maltiness with a fair amount of higher alcohols. Grassy earthy pine sol hops. Not a fan, but better the longer it sits.

Pours a golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma is bread and grass, with some fruit. Flavor is sweet bread, some grass and earthiness, and a touch of fruit. Has a thick body feel. Decent.

Bottle. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has lots of straw and hay with a bit of grain and earthiness underlying. Flavor has lots of bread and straw with a hint of grass in the finish.

Very mild malt aroma. Pours a clear light yellow with a thin white head. Starts with a slightly sweet malt aroma, with a big punch of hops, lots of pine and grassy notes. Very nice bitter finish, and light bodied. This is a really easy drinking beer, with the alcohol really well hidden.

A decent enough imperial lager. Grassy notes with a crisp finish. Nothing more but nothing less than you might expect

Not much of a scent. A hint of sweetness and a hint of grass. Pours a light gold where you can see the carbonation bubbles rising. No real head, just something that reminds me of dish soap, Hop presence hits the tongue first, but then finishes like bread. It is good for a pilsner or lager (not my styles of choice), but not something I would seek out.

Citrus, lemon and orange zest, caramel and notes of sugar cane. Nice hop bitterness throughout. Crisp finish and carbonation.

Bottle from Drakes party center. Pours golden with a white head. Leaves a lot of lacing. Not a ton on the nose. Tastes of straw on the tongue. There’s a hint of bitterness at finish to keep things tidy. It’s sneaky big at 7% and real easy drinking. Solid!
