COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich lustrous dark red London ale. Rich malt complexities lending notes of toasted caramel, raisins, toffee, and slight roast chocolate. Very light hop additions let the true malt characters promenade throughout the tasting enjoyment this beer offers.

Cherry colored with a thin white head. The smell is very sweet, with vanilla and toffee being the strongest notes. Some toasted bread notes lingering, too. Taste is lightly toasted malts, toffee and a slight tartness. Nothing really amazing, but better than most ambers.

Growler, courtesy GodOfThunder. The body is a clear, dark, crimson red color, and is topped with a minimal, off-white, hazy film. Virtually no lacing noted. Aromas proved overly sweet for my taste, notes of caramel, biscuit, and toast with orange marmalade dominating. Hints of floral hops and some dried, green, leafy spices lend some semblance of bitterness, but not enough to counter the sweet malts. Flavors follow suit, malty, biscuity caramel dominating, with just a glimmer of floral and citrus hop notes. Medium bodied and syrupy, the mouthfeel suffers from the sugar content. Knowing the creativity and excellence that Shorts is capable of, this one is a major disappointment.

Draft @ Shorts. Pours a slightly hazy amber color; light-tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Basic earthiness, chocolate, and red fruits in the aroma; dry, with some citrus bitterness. Medium mouthfeel: solid levels of carbonation; nice earthy bitterness and maltiness, chewy citrus notes, and some dried fruits; very, very drinkable and tasty amber rendition; toasted of roasted malts and chocolate, but these are slight and serve to buttress the core flavors; really nice amber. Lengthy finish: soft earthy and citrus bitterness, toasty malts, and some light chocolate notes; nicely balanced finish.

Draft at the brewery: Pours an oily brown with a webby tan head. The nose is hardly discernable, offering some light caramel and brown sugar notes, but I have to really pull at the glass to get at them. The body is light and drinkable, I am surprised to see this listed at 6%. What malt profile is there is nice and complex though. A nice mix of raisins, brown sugar, toffee and caramel. Doesn’t ever get really sweet though, finishes moderately dry.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a pretty-looking red-amber with a rim of white. Nice rich malty nose, bits of caramel and sweet tea. A good bit of leafy hops blends in as well. Really fresh, complex nice malt flavor. There’s deep unique earthy caramels, sweet oats, chewy grains and a bit of bright alcohol flavor. Chewy and good body, but not too sweet. Very nice. A bit of honey-like sweetness meets a plant-like, flowery hop backing. Not bad.

Had this on tap a number of times now. Pours a nice deep and dark red color. Aroma is nice and fruity, you could almost swear there was some sort of berries. Taste is much the same, nice big malt profile, nothing overly sweet, just a very balanced and ultra drinkable beer. Berries in the taste as well. Definitely not overly hopped, but a great balance, and tasty malt. well done.

Sample @ WBE: Curious style, described as a "Dark Red London Ale". Sort of smells like Victoria’s Secret "Strawberries and Champagne" lotion, and some caramel. Tastes of raisin and dry cherry and finishes with a honey flavor, but only slightly bitter.

Nose is kind of weak but has notes of malt caramel and light hops. Medium red amber hue with a fully diminishing off white head. Flavor of caramel malt, roasted malt, and some bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied and watery soft. An ok brew but nothing special.

Easily my favorite I have tried so far from Shorts. On tap at the brewpub. The body was dark copper with a light khaki head. The aroma was caramel and apples with some black tea. The taste was rich vanilla with some light tobacco. There was also some caramel. This was like a very nicely made imperial ESB.
