12oz bottle. pours a ruddy, swampy brown with no head. carbonation still present. lack of head opens up to a big roasted malt, caramel, maple aroma. pick up the subtle pecan at the end of each sip. dry and nutty. this beer is all over the place. a touch too sweet.

Bottle purchased from tiffany’s in kalamazoo, Mich. A nice brown, but I get neither maple nor pecans. Another interesting Short’s creation.

12oz bottle, 2011 batch. Pours deep mahogany, almost opaque. Fairly full head. Nose is pretty typical for a brown ale - Nutty, slightly roasted malts, mild caramel, some sweetness. I can’t say for certainty I’d say this smelled like pecans if tested blind, but it is nice and nutty and sweet. Very sweet on the palate, bordering on too much so. What follows is a rich body and some roast bitterness. Creamy mouthfeel, a bit astringent from the 9.5% but not unexpectedly so. The finish is also sort of drying. A decent but not awesome beer.

Bottle thanks to waltonc. Deep medium brown color, fairly clear, with a small off-white head sitting on the beer. The aroma of this one is pretty nice, nutty with caramel, maple syrup, and some oak presence even though I don’t think this was -bal aged. The flavor is a little sweet and rather nutty. Big-time pecans, maple syrup, caramel, toast, and dark fruit. Medium-full bodied and smooth on the palate. Not at all boozy for the nearly 9.5% ABV. Solid tick, thanks Chris.

The aroma is light sweet and malty and some oakiness from the pecans maybe. the flavor has some sour notes from the fermentation with smoothsweet maple and pecan flavor that blend and alter with the malts.

On tap at Shorts. Pours a dark amber brown with barely any head. Aroma of sweet nutty malt. Flavor of maple (but not so much maple sugar), nutty pecan, also a strange saltiness (mushrooms?). Not overly sugary or malty as I was expecting. Still, it didn’t quite sit right with me. An interesting beer to try, but I’d suggest a small sample!
