3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours a murky dark amber with beige head. Aroma has notes of wood, malt, burnt caramel and a bit of fruit. Flavor is the same as aroma. Mouth feel is light-medium body with high carbonation. Overall, not bad at all.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This poured a murky medium brown color with a biege head. Aroma was definitely maple syrup, some toasted malts and the nuts are there as well. The alcohol definitely comes through in the tastes as well as bittersweet maple syrup, nuts and roasted malts, and a bit astringent on the swallow. Definitely tasted like the description, just not my cup of tea.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
A: Murky brown topped by a 1-finger dark tan head
S: Roasty with some chocolate, dark fruit, and banana notes. Sort of bizarrely reminiscent of a peanut butter and banana sandwich.
T: Hits with more of that banana on the front of the tongue, then big roasty flavors that fade to a mild sourness like overripe fruit.
M: moderate carbonation & body, fairly long linger
O: Seems a bit odd and disjointed in the end. Interesting, but not what I would call pleasant. I have to wonder what’s intentional here and what’s not.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured into a snifter.
3.5 A: Murky dark brown color. One and a half fingers of tan head with average retention given the ABV and some spotty lacing.
4.5 S: Wonderful! All the best aspects of a brown are here - plenty of nuts, toasty, caramel, toffee, and brown sugar. Raisin fruitiness and tobacco. Then the maple syrup kicks in making this unique and the pecans kicks the nuttiness into overdrive. Booze is well hidden. Very well done.
4.0 T: The taste is sweeter than the nose suggests. The caramel comes out to play and brings the toffee with it. Nuttiness is there is ample amounts again with brown sugar, toastiness, raisin, fig, and tobacco. I don’t know if it is partially due to the maple syrup, but there’s a sourish sweetness in this. It isn’t off-putting or anything bad though.
3.5 M: Medium body. A bit lighter than I would prefer for this beer. Good moderate carbonation. A bit chewy. Reasonably creamy and smooth.
4.0 D: I like me some brown ales and this is a good one. All the best qualities of a brown and some interesting additives to keep it fresh.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
bottle, thanks to bu11zeye, brown color with a nutty sour aroma, more so than I would expect from the description, flavors of chewy malts and roast nuts

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz bottle pours amber with copper edges and tan head. The aroma has loads of walnut skins, fruity esters, weird earthy spicy plastic and an overall sense of malfunction. The taste offers up a huge level of nuttiness as well as slightly lesser notes of spiciness, fruity esters, tartness and plastic toys from Toy r Us. Hmmm.

2.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
dark but clear copper, a nice full tan head, looks good... aroma is very sweet the maple shows off strongly and in a really successful way staying true to it without being too strong, nice caramel as well with a great toasted nut that also displays some saltiness, shockingly perfect and not at all generic like most Short’s beers... the taste doesn’t pull this out, a big let down, the maple is off and not as smooth, the pecans come off as burnt, and there is a terribly bitter chemical finish, very disappointing... pass

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours brown. a nice nutty twist on a maple syrup ale. Strangely sweet deity massive pecan flavors. It would be a little better if it were stronger and heavier.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAY 16, 2011 Thanks to decadance for this one in trade. Pours dark caramel brown with a white head. Nose is nuts, maple, some malt, and heavy syrup and candied pecans with a hint of oxidation. Flavor is similar with nuts, maple, and a slight tartness with a bit of booze. Light to medium body and interesting overall.
