Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks eyes_wide_shut. As Shumensko Premium Beer. Clear golden. Grainy aroma with a bit of paper and faint hoppy hints. Sweetish grainy flavor with a slightly bitter finish. Light-bodied.

2,2 liter Pet Bottle from a cornershop in Rethymno. Pours clear golden with a small white head. Aroma of sweet grains and corn. Taste is moderate sweet carbonated water, nothing less, nothing more, did I say boring?

2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
33oml bottle from my local East European shop. A shimmering pale gold beer. Soft, watery, bland malt of minimal character - some mineral quality perhaps. Noticable hop bite and finish, typical of East European lagers - though the malt is a little blander than normal.

Bottle, from Romanian-Bulgarian grocer in Paphos. Ugly gold with barely any head. Mild corny aroma. Cornflake sugars cloy on the tongue. Sweet-sour. Mildly unpleasant.

1.1 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20
500 ml brown glass bottle with tear-off cap, as Shumensko Premium Beer. ABV is 4.6%. A gift, BB date seems to be 13.12.08. Extremely pale yellow colour, huge white head. Sweetish aroma with strong "chemical" notes, vile stuff. Soft mouthfeel. Bland and boring flavour with just a hint of sweetness and minimal hops, but not totally undrinkable.

Shumensko Premium Beer, 4.6%, huge thanks to Marin for bringing it from, humm, Sofia I guess. Shared with ogivlado and heavy. Poured a golden body with a small white head that went away fast. Light grainy, interesting sweet nose, ending dry. Weak notes of corn I guess. The taste is... humm, light yeastiness and some malt (dog food, eh). And that’s it. No real bitterness. Ah well, what could one expect from a mainstream Bulgarian lager...
