COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Side Project Brewing is excited to announce the release of our first blended beer, an American Wild Ale named Pulling Nails. Pulling Nails will be a series of blended beers that explore the art of blending to create beers with extraordinary depth, complexity and balance. This will be labeled as Blend #1 and it is the blend of 4 unique beers, each of which add their own characteristics to the final beer.

These 4 beers are:

Spontaneous Wild (Lambic-style, native microflora from my family’s farm) - aged 25 months in French Oak White Wine (bright citric acid, mushroomy, musty)
Flanders Red - aged 18 months in American Oak Chambourcin Barrels (tart candy, robust oak, big acid, very light acetic)
Saison du Fermier - aged 9 months in American Oak Chardonnay Barrels (citrus and orchard fruit, billowy, delicate)
Saison de Rouge - aged 6 months in American Oak Chambourcin Barrels (Amarillo hopped, pear notes, 100% house Brett)

Tasted on 2/7/14 from a capped 750mL bottle at the Friday night tasting at RBWG Asheville, big thanks to phaleslu for sharing this gem. Pours hazy dark yellow with an average khaki head that leaves an average collar of lace. The nose is dusty, dry vinous white wine, fruity gooseberry, maybe a touch of pineapple, and some lemon. The flavor is quite sour pineapple, white wine vinous, lemon, and a touch of vanilla. The body is medium with grippy tannin, and a long sour pineapple finish.

Copper-amber colored body with a thin off-white head and spotty lacing. Lightly tart stonefruits, ruby red grapefruit, fruit punch, some vinous notes, and oak. A lot going on here, but not sure it all came together quite right. Medium bodied with moderate, bubbly carbonation, assertive acidity, lingering finish, slightly creeping oxidation.

Bottle. Pours Clearish red color, with small white head. Notes of cherry pool water, marionberry, subtle and sour peach, oak and other misc Berry funk. Medium acidity and body in this one. Enjoyable stuff.

Bottle at Side Project tasting night; hazy light copper pour with frothy off white head, brett and tart fruit aroma, taste has fresh lemon, red grapes, some acidity, dry finish, some satsuma, grapefruit, good.

Bottle shared by vyvvy. Thanks! A: Cloudy amber, white head, lacing. N: Ruby grapefruit, lemon rind, oak, white wine grape, green apple, pear. T: Quite sour - I don’t get another profile under the intense tartness. M: Light body, crisp carbonation, alcohol hidden. O: Quite nice. Sourness puckers me right up without ruining the citrus fruit features. Really appreciate the opportunity to enjoy this and its brother.

Shared bottle. Colour...cloudy, medium amber with no head. Nose...quite fruitily acetic! Makes me gleek just smelling it! Pretty dang funky, as well. Palate...vividly acetic up front with quite a tangy twang! Zippy and bright with pear purée, lychee and underripe apricot to go with a dry, tannic feel that covers the palate. Refreshing!

Bouteille 75cl courtesy of and hsared with Steve and the crew. De couleur légèrement ambrée, col blanc fin. Arôme est riche avec une certaine complexité émanant des divers batchs utilisés dans cette production. On note un apport prenant du boisé et notamment d’une sensation de barrique de Chardonnay. Cela est couplé à un profil de brett qui offre un côté fruité frais. Le tout tire vers un vin blanc. Palais est fort complexe du à cet assemblage de tant de brassins. L’idée originale se retrouve un peu noyée dans une mer de boisé, de brett aux saveurs de vin blanc type Chardonnay. On retrouve un côté terreux de vin accompagné d’un pointe de sec voire de terreux et encore plus subtil de poussiéreux. Je note aussi un palais tirant vers un léger aigrelet sur des pointes de funk.

had a bottle sample .. . getting a few different wines and wood .. . nice tingle on the tongue .. medium finish .. . a liked the tartness .. . . here’s a good thing to do if you go to a party and you don’t know anybody: first take out the garbage. then go around and collect any extra garbage that people might have, like a crumpled napkin, and take that out too. pretty soon people will want to meet the busy garbage guy.

Sampled at ESBLS. Dingy brown gold. A funky fruity aroma with oak. So much funk in the flavor. Wood, vinous notes, peaches. So much brett. The funk come down the middle but the more complex notes fill the sides of the mouth.
