COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Side Project Brewing is excited to announce the release of our first blended beer, an American Wild Ale named Pulling Nails. Pulling Nails will be a series of blended beers that explore the art of blending to create beers with extraordinary depth, complexity and balance. This will be labeled as Blend #1 and it is the blend of 4 unique beers, each of which add their own characteristics to the final beer.

These 4 beers are:

Spontaneous Wild (Lambic-style, native microflora from my family’s farm) - aged 25 months in French Oak White Wine (bright citric acid, mushroomy, musty)
Flanders Red - aged 18 months in American Oak Chambourcin Barrels (tart candy, robust oak, big acid, very light acetic)
Saison du Fermier - aged 9 months in American Oak Chardonnay Barrels (citrus and orchard fruit, billowy, delicate)
Saison de Rouge - aged 6 months in American Oak Chambourcin Barrels (Amarillo hopped, pear notes, 100% house Brett)

Bottle @ GT’s Cat Cabana. Thanks, Richard. Orange amber pour with a white head. Smell is quite nice. Lemon, orange zest, peach, and tart berry. A bit of oak and wine, as well. The flavor, is a totally different story. Plastic, sawdust, and lemon juice. Eek. Astringent, tannic feeling on the tongue. Salt/brine, green apple, and grass. Not a fan.

Bottle… RBSG 2014This beer doesn’t cheat death. It wins fair and square!… Pours cloudy and amber with a mid-sized, creamy, white head that doesn’t give up. It’s in it for the long haul. The aroma furnishes lots of funk and loads of wood along with some herbal notes. Full-bodied with a skim-milk mouthfeel and airy carbonation. The flavor is a collection of sour, funky, woody, fruity and vinous notes – pear, pluot, apricot and white wine. Tons of wet wood in the tart, tangy, funky finish. World class beer from a world class brewery in a world class city!

UPDATED: JUN 29, 2014 Taste from a 750ml bottle, thanks to phaleslu. Hazy, darker orange amber color. Dots and ropes of lace. Awesome, near puckering tart sour taste. Love that. Mildly sweet. Definitely get some nice light wine chard barrel aromas, good light white grape. Smooth, soft, lighter carbonation. Wow. Very nice sour. Good woody complex lightly spicy longer aftertaste. Awesome flemish red. Subtle... Yet complex.

Re-rate from a bottle at the brewery during RBSG 6/20/14: I had this in my notes as "Puffing Nails", whoops. Mostly hazy amber color. Some particles in the body. Thin off-white head. Leaves good, thicker lace. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kinda soft, lighter carbonation. Light slick finish. Moderate sweet, light spicy, moderate tart taste. Oaky lemony spicy aroma. Some belgian yeast character. Solid stuff, less my style though. 7/4/7/4/14 [taste & aroma scores lowered 1 pt each]
