COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saison de Rouge is a dry-hopped Red Saison that was fermented in red wine barrels with 100% Brettanomyces. This Saison will be very different than previous releases as it focuses more on hops, spice, malt and a little funk without the acidity.

Although it finished really dry for this malt bill, it still has a bunch of orchard fruit, starburst candy, orange and grape juice and lime peel on the palate from the dry hops (Mosaic, Citra, Simcoe).

5 months in Chambourcin barrels
7% ABV
Kettle Hops - Nugget, Amarillo
Dry Hops - Mosaic, Simcoe, Citra

bottle shared by fux, many thanks! pours murky light brown-reddish with a nice light beige head, reviving and leaving some lacing. spicy wheat, peppery bretts, fruitiness - mostly berries but some small yellow fruits, oak - maybe a vinous character if not red grapes, spicy and citrusy hops, vanilla. bright carbonation, light body - slightly watery, dry bretty and herbal-grassy-spicy-peppery finish. within by buddies, i stand alone kind of liking this one!

Bottle shared at tasting. Murky red brown pour. Aroma is really oaky, spicy, really earthy, oak is pretty dominant, light grassy aromas, funk. Taste is earthy, oaky, toasted grain, spicy finish. Palate is a bit flat, kind of dull. Not bad.

Bottle shared by Fux, thanks! Pours a cloudy red with a medium white head that leaves some lacing. Nose is of dill, pepper and red wine. Taste is tart an fruity, offers some spicy and herbal notes. Body is light to medium and carbonation moderately high. Overall this wasn’t a hit but at least I didn’t despise it as much as Tommy.

Bottle (750 ml). Shared by Fux, thanks! Cloudy dark amber with a smedium bubbly beige head and little lacing. Aroma is of rubber, sour notes, winey presence, earthy, caramel and spices. Taste is quite similar with the rubber notes being a little less dominant, but with more minerality. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Lingering spicy finish. Lack of balance and drinkability. Too spicy. It looks like I’m not a fan of Saison Rouge, as I disliked the one from Dunham too. But unless we had a bad bottle, I really don’t understand the high scores on this one.

Bottle from Jeff at the share. Small snifter pour was deep red with a small white head. No lacing. The aroma was serious fruits like peaches, grapes, apricots, mangoes, brett yeast, sweet nectars, and wine. The taste was similar with the tart fruits really dominant. Very complex fruit flavors with pears, apples, grapes, orange, and apricots. Thin body, tart mouth and finish. Medium carb. Fruity finish and tart.

Bottle shared thanks to JBPortland ! Pours a hazy ruby mahogany color with a finger of khaki foam. Very unique beer and now that Im reading the description I think it was the dry hopping that had my palate confused but pleased at the same time. Not sure ive had a sour red with such rigoris dry hopping but the skittles candy and melon additions really worked nicely with the juicy cranberry, bruised raspberries, wet oak, leathery funk and vinous complexities that further lead you down the path of this interesting brew.

750ml bottle pours deep opaque rich blood red brown with a finger of head. Nose is musty oak funk, tart grape, red wine, a little hint of weird band-aid right out of the cooler which eventually subsides into a more rounded damp basement funk as it warms. Taste is nice balanced mild acidity, fruit cherry, berry, grapes, wine, wet wood. Finish is crisp dry tart berry, cherry, semi sweet fruit funk, oak.

Sample at Boulevardia 2014. Comes a hazy amber with a decent off-white head. Aroma of citrus, fruit, funk, and wood. Taste is citrus, tart cherry, funk, spice, and oak. Excellent.

vyvvy (4000) - Florissant, Missouri, USA - JUN 27, 2014
Sampled at The Wine & Cheese Festival 2014 - Pours cloudy amber with a tan head. The aroma has light sourness, some red wine barrel notes, traits of funk and seems maltier and more balanced than expected. It has a medium / full body with lots of flowing carbonation. The taste starts off with lots of oak and red wine off the bat. There is some heavy malts, dark berries and brett funk showing through. The finish has a nice sourness to it. I’m guessing by the time I had it the dry hopping had diminished a bit and more brett showing. Really solid beer.
