The Origin is a blend of Imperial Stout, Black Oatwine and Baltic Porter that was aged for 20 months in a Rittenhouse Rye barrel with Madagascar Vanilla Beans. It is our Batch #1, Barrel #1 and our first release. It is never to be brewed again.

High boost bottle @ joet’s Party Palace. Black pour, just about flat, with no real head to speak of. Aroma is whiskey, vanilla, and blackberry jam. Lots of oak, chocolate, Hershey’s Syrup, and roast. Some caramel and certainly a bit of booze. Flavor is quite intense. Very sweet. Lots of chocolate, vanilla, and whiskey. Blackberry jam, some roast, oak, caramel, and brown sugar.

Okay now, dat Origin is pitch black with a wonderful aroma of roasted malts, sour black currant and vanilla - Big barrel influence here. Initially the taste is rich, sweet and impy-like but it has a clear sour aftertaste which in my opinion is a flaw. No doubt the base beer is good though. This a tricky one...

>> Thanks phaleslu for the share. Inky red pour with low foam. Nose is excellent bourbon barrel, toasted coconut. Taste is sour, red grape. Palate is tannic, woody, powdery, big paper, quite tart. Maybe starting to sour.

Bottle shared during some post-bus drinking at the Downtown Inn for RBWG. Jenny loved this-- I specifically wrote that, so it must have left an impression. Fascinating flavor: chocolate malts with some slight icy hot cooling quality. Some raspberry and vanilla bean sweetness and dark chocolate. Really interesting.

Bottle at RBWG, courtesy of phaleslu. Pours a dark brown color with tan head. Brownie, chocolate, a little alcohol burn, fruity, tangy flavors.

Bottle during RBWG Asheville, shared by phaleslu. Thanks! Dark, dark brown pour with no head whatsoever. Massive aroma, dark chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, wood. Low carbonation, full bodied. There is a bit of (tannic?) sourness making it interesting. Don’t know if it would be better or not without that. Long, smooth, pleasant finish. A great beer and the best smelling one I’ve had in a while.

Poured by Phallus Lou at RBWG. Pours black with khaki wisps. Aroma of coconut, cocoa, some whiskey. Taste brings some bitter roast, a little more chocolate, and raisins. Interesting acidic twang on the back end. Slightly oily texture. Finish is roasty and acidic. The combination of flavors here is kind of strange. Really unsure what to make of it.

750ml bottle, very small taste thanks to Phaleslu. Dark brown color. Minimal head. Awesome, huge aroma. Awesome coffee, brownie batter. Graham cracker. Whoa... Taste has some surprising tannic vinous sour notes than I wasn’t expecting. Nose is way better than the taste. Gotta say, though, the 14% is hidden extremely well. A very nice 14% sipper. No burn or bite to this, but you can tell it’s that strong. It works. Solid barrel aged imperial coffee stout. I don’t think what I’m tasting here was the final intention, though. More vinous, tannic notes than I like.

750 ml bottle to snifter (generously bestowed by phalluslu). Looks good; a viscous and mostly opaque motoe oil color with very thin tan lacing. Smells and tastes of dark malt, chocolate, vanilla, and mild roast with a solid mouthfeel. Good beer.
