My Unblended labeling will be single barrel releases of barrels that I find are just too good to blend and offer a unique experience on their own. Barrel #40 is the first barrel in my inventory that I have found to be this way. It started life as a Chardonnay barrel that I filled with a batch of coolship beer (100% spontaneously fermented) that I brewed in the early part of 2013. This was Barrel #40 in my inventory and is now its own, single barrel release.

Bottle thanks to Brandon. Pour is very pale yellow with a small white head. Aroma is lemony and earthy with hints of hay and spice. Flavor is very strange. Tastes like the letter "J". Very light tart kick up front followed by a void which drops deeply until finally caught by buttery barrel notes. Then a slight upswing with more lemony notes. Interesting beer.

Bottle... RBSG 2014This beer rocks!… Pours cloudy and straw-colored with a small, fizzy, white head. The aroma is a funky, fruity mélange of sharp cheese, apricot, barnyard and horseblanket. Full-bodied and lightly creamy with airy carbonation. The Flavor is super-tart, bready and stupid fruity – a medley of stone fruits… excluding cherries. Big-time apricot throughout. Tart, fruity finish. Yet another world class ale forged by Side Project!

decaturstevo generously shared this bottle; thank you sir! Poured a hazy golden with a lasting film of cream. Nose is white grape, vinegar, must and dry yeast. Taste is similar blend with a bit of sharp cheese. Medium body is well balanced and has medium-high carbonation.

Bottle from courtesy of decaturstevo. Yellow, with a very thin head. Smells a little like stinky cheese and lemon, but more appealing than that sounds. Some stoney, earthy flavors, then a lot over citrusy sourness. Some vinegar and white wine, too. Nice stuff!

Strykzone (4912) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JUL 16, 2014
Sampled at East Side Bottle Liberation tasting. This looks a little like grapefruit juice with no foam. A bretty and malty nose. Quite tart and very complex. Fruit and wild yeast are nice. Malts are bigger than expected and work well. Wood notes round this out and give it smoothness. Another winner.
