2014 Beer Camp Across America Release.

The Asheville area is a brewing hotspot nestled in the mountains of North Carolina. Tater Ridge was brewed by something of a craft beer super group made up of members of the Asheville Brewers Alliance. We’re fortunate to call these passionate and talented brewers our neighbors, and we hope this unique ale will be the first of many collaborations to come.

We’ve made plenty of new friends in the nearly 30-strong Asheville Brewers Alliance (ABA) since we started brewing in North Carolina. Two of whom—John Stuart of Green Man Brewery and Luke Dickinson of Wicked Weed Brewing—led this collaboration recipe and work tirelessly to bring creativity and a deep-seated love of locally made craft beer to the Appalachian Mountains.

Poured into Trappist tulip a dark UPS brown with tan head that receded into thin coating. Had curtain lace and a nice med body and low co2. Aroma was earthy and spice with roasted malts. Taste was the same with a nice sweetness. Being a sweet potato hater I was dreading trying this one. I was most surprised by this one out of the 12 pack. I loved the balance and was surprised by some of the comments here based, I guess, on the fact I enjoyed it very much. This is what makes the beer world so fun.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper tinged brown with a large light tan head. Spicy malt and a touch of nutty sweetness on the nose. Medium bodied, sweet caramel and a hint of chocolate, smooth and warm with some alcohol peeking through. Warm malt and a touch of sweetness. Not sure if I would have noticed sweet potatoes blind, but looking for it I certainly get it. Slow finish with some more warm malt and a bit more sweetness. Very tasty.

Pours crystal clear and copper in color with a thin white head. Aroma of strong caramel and light smoke. The sweet potatoes are there but not obvious, an appropriate level in my opinion. Nice, interesting beer.

Deep copper pour with creamy off white head. Large roasted malt and floral hop aroma. Large caramel malt with a nice finishing bitter. Good carbonation from another solid BC beer.

Bright hops, sweet malt, grass, and oil on the nose, like a fresh cut lawn. Pours a dark amber. Nice flavors of pine and a little smoke. More bitterness than a typical scottish ale. Very interesting for the style

Bottle #3 from Beer Camp case. Better that I remember from having on tap at Thisty Monk Biltmore Pk. Pours rich, deep brown. Some head with small, lingering cap- nice lacing. Maltiness definitely comes through first - it is a scotch ale, after all, so I really shouldn’t like it as much as I do- with the Mosaic and Moteka hops pulling their weight for a just-about-right 35 IBU’s. Nutty, earthy, light grass. Hops seem to bring a bit of everything- citrus, pine, earthy, tropical.....all balanced by roasted malt and sweetness from the subtle taters. Mouthfeel is on the chewy side- adds another level of interest. Some bitterness lingering on finish - nice change from typical "scotch" ale. Pretty complex and downright delicious.

This dark brown beer has a slightly sweet unique aroma. It has a thick smoky flavor of malts and has a unique flavor I can't out my finger on. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

For scottish ale it’s good! The aroma is really the only place I notice the sweet potato and it’s very subtle. I notice is more from the bottle than the glass. Otherwise, the aroma has many of the typical scottish character. The taste is roasty and smooth with just a slight vegetable taste. Overall, it’s definitely worth trying.

Pours three fingers of head on a murky brown colored body. The aroma is malty and a little caramel. The taste is sweet and spicy with a dry bitter finish. Very interesting. The texture is thicker. Worth trying.
