COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
2014 Beer Camp Across America Release.

The Asheville area is a brewing hotspot nestled in the mountains of North Carolina. Tater Ridge was brewed by something of a craft beer super group made up of members of the Asheville Brewers Alliance. We’re fortunate to call these passionate and talented brewers our neighbors, and we hope this unique ale will be the first of many collaborations to come.

We’ve made plenty of new friends in the nearly 30-strong Asheville Brewers Alliance (ABA) since we started brewing in North Carolina. Two of whom—John Stuart of Green Man Brewery and Luke Dickinson of Wicked Weed Brewing—led this collaboration recipe and work tirelessly to bring creativity and a deep-seated love of locally made craft beer to the Appalachian Mountains.

Poured into Trappist tulip a dark UPS brown with tan head that receded into thin coating. Had curtain lace and a nice med body and low co2. Aroma was earthy and spice with roasted malts. Taste was the same with a nice sweetness. Being a sweet potato hater I was dreading trying this one. I was most surprised by this one out of the 12 pack. I loved the balance and was surprised by some of the comments here based, I guess, on the fact I enjoyed it very much. This is what makes the beer world so fun.

Rich deep brown coloured body with a thickish, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of squash, earth, nuts, caramel, raisins, grassy hops, wort and a bit of yeast - nice and pungent. Full-bodied; Very rich squash flavours with a lot of hops noticeable, some sustained sweetness from brown sugar and prunes and a bit of a light grassy kick at the end. Aftertaste shows some nice squash and full-bodied malt flavours and a lot of the caramelised sugars throughout. Overall, a very nice and complex beer with a full-bodied goodness and a lot of caramelised sugars of different types noticeable. I sampled this stubby twelve ounce bottle from the mixed twelve pack, purchased from Harris Teeter in Pentagon Row (Arlington), Virginia on 30-July-2014 for US$22,00/12pack, sampled at home in Washington on 15-September-2014.

From a bottle. Pours hazy copper brown with a fizzy bubbly beige head. Tastes like vegetable, sweet gourd, light spice, light alcohol. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like vegetable, light spice, sweet pumpkin, and light hops.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with creamy beige head. Aroma is toasted and caramel malts, sweet potatoes, faint apple, and faint nuttiness. Flavor is toasted malts, earthy hops, faint chocolate and caramel, and faint sweet potato notes; dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Tap at Ginger Man. Bright orange-brown. Nose of citrus hops, caramel, chocolate, earth. Flavor is citrus, esp. orange, rich bready malts, some spice. Well out together, a good hoppy amber.

Like others have said not much sweet potato here, but a very slight touch of sweetness followed by a lot of rye malts. There are hints of licorice and molasses. Nice job from the guys in the mountains of NC.

One of the better bottles in Beer Camp. This poured a ruby hue, with a sweet malty nose. Flavor was malty and sweet, with a nice consistency. I wouldn’t drink this everyday but it was good to try once.

Bottle. Do we really need to make a beer with sweet potatoes? I thought it an interesting twist at Lazy Magnolia. This one comes across as trying a bit too hard. A bit spicy and weighted with the mushy squash aspect you might expect, this isn’t my bag. But if you’re looking for a heavier-on-the-palate beer to go with your giant pot of eastern European stew ... I guess you could find worse. I appreciate the culinary skill. (#5737, 9/14/2014)

Typical yeasty beer aroma. Nice and dark, like darker iced tea. Strong alky flavors but not like a 7% would indicate. Not sure about the sweet tater thing in this. Would never know the tater is in there, just yer typical peat flavors. Some barely perceivable co2 in thar but none to speak of. Long bitter medical feel for a finish. Weird but on style for this if it was a scotch ale.

On tap at Harry’s Hofbrau. Moderate caramel aroma. Clear copper-gold with off-white head. Taste is light malt.
