2014 Beer Camp Across America Release.

Torpedo Pilsner is a hop-forward take on the crisp classic lager. We and the folks at Firestone Walker share a passion for New Zealand hop varietals, so we loaded our legendary Hop Torpedo with southern hemisphere hops for a fruity, floral twist on the pilsner style.

Just down the road from us in California’s Central Coast wine country, this rock star brewery has earned “Mid-size Brewery of the Year” at the World Beer Cup four times. Like us, Firestone is passionate about hops. Their skill with the ingredient shines in their Pale Series and elsewhere in a long beer lineup driven by a premier brewing team.

Straw yellow with soap bubble head. Found mine to be very floral, light toast and biscuit, malt. Bitter finish. In addition to floral is a good amount of fruity flavor.

Pours a clear golden with a frothy ivory head that sticks around for a while. Crisp, malty aroma has a strong and somewhat sweet fruity overtone. Flavor is crisp and malty like a proper pilsner, with a fruity undertone and hoppy and vegetable hints. Firm, smooth texture leaves a subtle but lasting fizz. Vive les collaborations!

bottle. Golden with one finger head. Solid hoppy pilsner. Light body with a big hoppy bitter kick in the finish. Crisp and clean, just like you want from a good pils.

Pours two fingers of head on a clear golden colored body. The aroma is biscuits, grains, toasted malt and lemon. The taste is moderately bitter with a touch of honey sweetness and a dry bitter finish. Great balance and flavor. The texture is light and crisp. Enjoyable.

This is a really tasty pilsner with a bit more hop flavor. Aroma is a bit hoppy with a lagerish touch. The taste is faintly fruity hops with really light malt note and a very crisp finish that is refreshing. My only wish is that a little more toasty malt flavor was paired with the hops. Overall, good for a pilsner.

12-ounce bottle. Pours a deep gold color with white frothy head and constant bubbles. Nice floral hoppy aroma. Medium body, mellow hoppy flavor balance. Even sweet/dry balance. Mellow maltiness. Hoppy crisp finish. Very pleasant.

Type: 12-oz.bottle Glass: Pint mug From: Albertsons in Alpine, Calif. Price: $25.99 for the variety Beer Camp Across America 12-pack Purchased: Oct. 17, 2014 Consumed: Oct. 19, 2014 Misc.: Collaboration with Firestone Walker Brewing Company; Packaged May 29, 2014 at 9:46 a.m. Poured yellow, golden, straw, hazy color with three fingers of creamy white rocky head. Cleared up as it went down. Saw some bubbles coming up at different parts of the glass, but nothing crazy. Good sporadic foamy lacing along the sides of the glass. Very good retention on the top all the way down. (Sight - 3.88) Smelled boozy corn malts up front, immediately followed by hoppy pilsner notes. Grassy hops, Kix cereal or Corn Pops, sourdough bread, honey, peppery spices, herbal hops, New Zealand spices and light floral hops. More pilsner than hoppy, but pretty nice on the nose. (Smell - 4.00) Tasted a lot like the nose. Still more pilsner than anything else, but more bitter than the smell. Sharp corn cereal (Kix and Corn Pops), grassy hops, sourdough bread, hay, honey wheat, New Zealand hops, faint floral hops, herbal notes and slight citrus zest. (Taste - 3.75) Light body. Thin-to-oily texture. Lively carbonation. Bitter, abrupt finish. Got better as it went down as the beginning was a bit rough. (Feel - 3.63) I was all over the place on this one. Initially I wasn’t a fan, but it grew on me a bit as it went down. Definitely more pilsner than hoppy. (Overall - 3.75) 3.79 85 B+

Poured from bottle to glass. Straw hue with fizzy white head that settled. Aroma is lemon, straw, sulphur, grassy. Mouthfeel is nice with a light body and crisp carbonation. Taste is dry with a bitter hop following and a slightly sulphur finish. Overall this is decent.
